suggestions for help to the gopher tortoise..
(mind you this has been spanned out for weeks,because it is obviously not important to these people.)
where i live it is not very common to see the little gopher tortoises trekking across the road or munching out beside of it! it is an amazing site even though to some it is an average animal,all is fair in opinion but to me when you take advantage of them physically such as running them over or just molesting them something has to be done!!people need to be aware that they are not just killing or hurting a tortoise,they are shortening any possibility of them getting themselves off the endangered species list!! although it is illegal to move them from the road,it is even more illegal to just run them over!
i have become tired of this long before i decided to let you guys know i need your help, here is what i have said to the Florida wildlife commission

Is there anyway i can get the county i live in and possibly the surrounding areas to have signs up warning drivers how endangered the gopher tortoises are and that is against the law to molest and/or run them over?

We do not have any signs. You would need to contact your County Commissioner's and see if they would have some signs made.

Hello, I am Concerned about the Gopher Tortoise Population, with seeing more and more dead on the road, and i would like to know how i could get some signs put up in areas that are heavily inhabited by Tortoises. I ask about this, Because there are areas for Deer and Bear, which i am not sure if Deer are Protected by wildlife laws But I am pretty Sure that the Gopher Tortoises are. I have already spoke with the Florida wildlife commission, and they told me to contact you, If you could get back to me as soon as possible, i would love to be able to do my part to help these Magnificent animals. so i did contact them they told me that they were yet to hear of that!!
they said that they would try and find a person to get back to me that could answer my questions!!

i doubt that they will pay me any mind because eventually they did call and they said "we don't have the templates for gopher tortoises" i am not sure how hard it is to make those things.they said i could make my own, but "nothing can stop the county from taking them down if they seem fit to prove a hazard." so i guess what i will have to do is get about 40 signs to spread out evenly over the what is known to be high populations.i did how ever find a site that sells those signs that are like the ones you see so commonly for endangered species. they are 20 dollars a piece. there has to be a way to make them put up the signs on there own!!! they are endangered!!
what i am trying to say is any suggestions?
