Incredible stroke of luck
Well yesterday I was at the expo, and I had something happen to me, that I just wanted to share. I brought chomper to the expo, to display at my table. Obviously he was a little cranky from all the excitement. I wanted to take him out of his clear bin, to put him in a dark one so he could sort of get away from everyone. He was being difficult, but it was expected. While I was hooking him, and lifting him out of the cage he struck. I saw him go for the inside of my elbow...you know where you donate blood from? Well he went up, and it wasnt exactly a target that I could pull away. He snapped his mouth shut, and just grazed right over the vein in 2 places. At that point, I just put him in the dark bin, and left him alone. I was thinking about it later, and realized how close I came to a trip to the hospital. I think of it like this. I have seen his teeth, and the big ones are at least a half inch, I remember donating blood, and seeing them drain a pint in 5 minutes with just one small needle. I was thinking, what happened if he got a solid, well planted bite on that part of my arm? all those teeth, plunged into veins and arteries. If I could fill a pint bag of blood with one small needle hole, how much blood would I loose with like 40? I honestly believe that if he got me as he was trying to, I would have lost alot of blood, and likely required a trip to the hospital. Its such a wierd place for a snake to bite, but i guess it was just the most "accessible" to him.
Anyways, It really made me think, and I just wanted to share with you guys. Sorry, no pics of the current damage from him grazing me, cus its almost healed already...thats how lucky I was.
thnx for reading people
