Anyone have any good success stories regarding adoptions? I try not to buy pets anymore, my cat, fish, and boa were all adopted. They are all good pets.
The cat is a crazy inbred feral cat, but she is cool. She is a handful, very playful, and never boring

(Tippy, as I rescued her from the Tippman Castle at Skirmish USA.)
The fish is a fish. He is an oscar. He stares at people, eats stuff and destroys the tank. His name is Percicles(Percy for short)
The boa is great(her name is Teicuh). She bit one of her owners and they did not know snakes, so they got the fear and got rid of her. She is very mellow, but aggressive and territorial about her food. The first time I fed her I had to put a towel over the cage so she would not strike at me through the glass. She chugged her rat, and was peachy in 5 minutes. She has never even hissed at me now that I know her feeding habits. She was definately worth six hours of driving.
I try to encourage as many people to adopt as I can. Provided you know what to look for in terms of health an adopted animal can be as good or better than a purchased one, and provide more satisfaction for having done something good as well as getting a pet.
Also being a Biology student a lot of practices in the pet industry do no not agree with me. When it comes time to get something strange, I will probably go to a reptile show. I also want to run a rescue center in the future, when I have my BS and my own house rather than an apartment.
So what have your experiences been with adoptions?
