yes, very unhealthy

did you add and move him after eating or before?

was mouse/rat completely thawed?

was it correct girth size?

What are you temps in the cage?

All these can factor into a regurg. More info would be helpful.

DON"T feed him again right now. Wait at least a week, wouldn't hurt for longer 10 - 14 days even.

i moved him after feeding...1 day after....

the mouse was thawed completely....i made sure of this...i even squeezed it to make sure all cold air was released.... the size of the mouse was no larger than the width of the body...

temps are 75-80 on the cold side....average of 92 on the warm side...the humidty level is at 50

I'm not the regurge expert as I've never dealt with one. But you should definitely give them a minimum of 48 hours after a meal before handling, and sometimes longer. I give mine at least 3 or 4 days. Wait a little while before offering another meal. If the regurge was just due to the handling, you shouldn't have any problem getting him back on track.

Do you know the snake's history before you got him? Like if he's ever had a regurge before or other health problems? When did you get him? Could be a double whammy with the stress of you just getting him, and the stress of you handling him after a meal.

i got him/her from a pet store...and they had just fed it 1 day before i bought it...he passed it with no problems....and he is very alert and friendly...seams very healthy...

i agree with u...i think it may have been a double whammy....with the new cage and movin him so soon after his meal...

i did notice he stayed away from the warm side fo his cage the day after feeding...i thought that was strange....

i just feel so bad for the lil guy/gal... when i looked at the mouse all gewwy and gross i thought he had puked his entire guts out :scared: now im just wondering when the best time to feed him again will be...u say a couple days...the other person said a week or 2...i think i will just wait till his next feed day which is saturday and try again...this time i will leave him for 3 - 4 days so he can settle better....

also...is it ok to hold him for the next week?? or should i let him be?

Don't feed again so soon. The recommended protocol for a regurge is to wait a few weeks and start with a smaller prey item, like a pinkie, and slowly get them back up to normal feedings. It can take a while. They need some time to replenish their gut flora (I think that's what it's called) between feedings.

If you check the Health Problems forum here, there are are few other threads about regurges with exact advice on how to get them back on track. Soon you will hear from Dank, Trendkill, or Johnny Utah, who have way more knowledge than I do. But just don't feed again in 2 days! It's too soon.

Never mind. The link I was going to post did not have actual advice in it. We need a sticky for how to nurse a snake back from a regurge. Anyone care to make one? I couldn't find anything.

92 is way way way to hot! get it down to about 88. you will cook the poor snake. wait about 10 days to feed him again so he can restore his gut flora. if he regurgs again i would get him to the vet to check for parasites.

I'd wait a whole 2 to 3 weeks before attempting to feed him again. He wont starve during this time.. the recuperation will do him much more good than harm.

Don't handle him at all until he's feeding again without any problems. Cover his cage with a towel or tape something up on all sides of the cage. Give him complete privacy and plenty of rest. At this point, stress can trigger further complications. And if he's shying away the hot size of his cage, lower the temps a bit. Make sure he has a hide spot on the warm side as well.

What size prey is he eating now? Feed him something tiny (1/3 the size) for his next meal. If he holds that down, wait another 2 weeks, and feed him a meal that's about 1/2 the size of what he normally eats. If he holds that meal down, wait another 2 weeks and feed him another small meal (1/2 - 2/3 the normal size). If he holds that meal down, wait about 10 days, and feed him the regular size prey. If all goes well, you can now resume the normal feeding schedule. It's a somewhat long process, but necessary in many cases.

If he regurgitates again, visit the vet, and mention that you may want to suppliment with Bioserin or Bene Bac (something you may want to do now anyway). Links:
