Different subspecies have different proportions in boa (ssp.). For example a BCC tends to have a much larger, more angular head than that of BCI (one of the things I love about the look of BCC ). There is also the possiblility that the faster grown boas can have smaller heads in proportion to their bodies than that of the slower grown boas. Power fed boas can appear to be "pin headed" as the body grows much faster than the bones of the skull. There is generally not a problem health wise for differnt head sizes when compared to the body size except for in extreme cases.

I see a lot of varying head sizes even within the same subspecies and locale. Some of my Surinames have really large heads.. some have the same body length and mass but their heads are smaller. Some are in the mid-range.

Well put Brandon. Feed 3 snakes that were born from the same clutch the same amount of food... Chances are you will have 3 different sized snakes.

I notice the same difference between my BCI (smaller head, bigger body) and BCC (bigger head in proportion to body.) It was so cute when they lived together; she would lie with her little head on top of his big head and crush him with her body!
