Hungry all of a sudden
I fed my suri 2 days ago. That was a week after her last meal. Up to that point, I was feeding her every 3 weeks. Today, every time I walk by the cage, she gets really excited. I know she's hungry again. She must be going through a growth spurt or something, or sensing a climate change. I won't feed her again for at least a week.

So you think she is hungry but you are going to wait to feed her? Don't you think that could damage her growth spurt if she is in one, or if it has been warm then her metabolism is running faster why not feed her instead of making her wait?
I never understand why people don't just feed a hungry snake. If you denied my retic food for a week and she was hungry you would not be able to handle her until after she was fed. She would bite you every time you opened the cage until you fed her. So because your snake is not as aggressive as mine she should wait longer for food? I just don't get this post.

Like ive said before in a couple other posts; snakes are opportunistic hunters, that will eat when a meal presents itself. Ive fed my Boelens python 2 large rats and then fed him a medium rat the following day. A ravenous eater means a healthy snake!!!!

I fed my retic every other day until she stopped biting the glass of her enclosure. Now she eats about 1-2 times, every week or two. I feed her when ever she wants to eat.

You have to be careful with surinames. I don't want a regurge problem.

All good points here. But yeah, Joe brought a very good point though, surinames can't handle larger meal (or more frequent meals) than a BCI. They may look hungry, but it's not worth the risk w/ that particular ssp.

I don't yet understand the regurge syndrome with surinames 9 times out of 10 a regurge is do to too low basking temps, or stress. Are the temps where surinames are from different than BCI's? What is their natural prey and how often in the wild do they eat? Do they frequently throw up in the wild?

I don't think the snake Joe has is a wild snake. I find it humorous when people compare wild snake to captive bred ones! Just my 2 cents.

how is feeding your snake multiple items multiple times a week at all healthy. Yea it may make them grow and what not but it cant be healthy for them.

I understand for those that don't own specifically " Suriname Bcc" that it is difficult to fathom how sensitive the digestive systems of that particular subspecies can be. It is also quite dangerous for a suri to regurgitate (often leading to a syndrome similar to bolemia [spelling] that can and will kill the snake). You simply cannot treat or keep Suriname or Guyanna Bcc the same way you would keep, house, treat, feed other boa constrictor subspecies and/or localities. They are not nearly as forgiving of husbandry errors or feed schedule issues as other snakes are. They are NOT Columbian Bci and don't do as well under the conditions that would be fine for them. Definately not the same as retics or burms (I used to keep those before Suris).....If you treat them the same you could be in for real troubles.
I would keep that schedule you are on or at minimum go to a 10-14 day schedule instead of three weeks if a spurt is coming on. This is the time of year where some of the females go into fat storage mode too to prepare for breeding over the winter. Give her another season and you may be doing that for her on purpose
Good luck with her
