Is it inappropriate to....
...Pimp out your snake? lol I don't have any intention of doing this but I was wondering if people stud out male snakes like they do dogs?
Seems like it would be a lot of stress on the snake.

There's a time and place for everything. I personally don't get why people would do it with commonly kept easy to obtain animals...like balls or boas or whatnot. Even in an expensive morph situation, there are things like quarantine to consider though usually it's only considered as it's being dismissed. Not only putting your snake and someone else's snake at potential risk...I've seen a LOT of friendships get smashed apart over squabbling over litters/clutches ..what was or wasn't promised...care or noncare of the male while in your buddies care etc etc etc. If I want to breed something, I obtain unrelated pairs and breed them. If I happen to be holding something unobtainable and someone had the mate that I know and trust...maybe if it's something that needed to be bred. For the most part, breeder loans...I don't suggest it.

Thats what I figured. Like I said, I have no intention of studding out my snake and If I wanted to breed down the line, I'd buy a pair...But I was just curious if this is a thing that people do.
I've been thinking about it recently because my snake is reaching sexual maturity or whatever. lol And He's Really active. I feel bad for him. Always looking for a girl thats never going to be there....

See thats what I'm sayin! lol I feel bad for him, I know I'd go crazy if I NEVER got any.
I'm sure its upsetting to him..... I was trying to think of things I could do to help him out. Nothing sounded like a good idea. lol

Me and my friend are planning it. He has a jaguar carpet python male, and I have 2 female normal carpets. We plan on making a written contract to agree on, and it shouldnt be to hard since we have already figured how it will be.

Well, I dont pimp out snakes, but I am engaged in 2 breeding loans right now. I sent a male crested and a female gargoyle gecko to a friend of mine. She has an outstanding red stripe male gargoyle, and the breeding loan entails that she will take them to her house, take care of them, breed them, and then we will split the offspring 50/50, same with the ciliatus.[I had a male who I wasnt going to use this year] Its awesome, because taking care of breeding gargoyles and ALL the babies, is just.. more work then I want to do, and she doesnt need to purchase, or raise up animals to breed to her animals. She will be able to breed her geckos to other high end animals, and I get babies without having to buy anything.
Its just a mutually beneficial relationship. If I was not interested in any of the offspring, then she would have to financially compensate me for breeding my animals. The terms of a breeding loan vary considerably. I would have expected slightly less then the value of 1/2 the offspring sold. [subtracting the work to take care of them, and the effort to picture, post, sell, and ship them] and even then, it would be easier for someone to buy a mate for their animal for less, then the value of 1/2 the animals sold or whatever [or whatever the terms of the loan are]
In loans, you also have to consider "what if they kill my animal?" then they would of course have to reimburse you for the animal. Its pretty rare, but some people are irresponsible. Breeding is of course harder on the female, then it is for the male, which is the reason why most people will stud out a male before offer to send a female for breeding. But gargoyle offspring needs to be housed separately, and it is a total PITA.
As for avoiding any issues. Each clutch is 2 eggs. Providing that both hatch out, we will alternate first pick from each clutch [or 2 animals, or whatever it is] Ex: I would get first pick between two, and she would get the other, then she would get first pick of 2, and I would get the other. And then it would be basically fair. Even if its not, I am not opposed to getting a few less animals because of the time and energy it saves me.

Yea, I don't think I'd trust someone to care for my snake during the process. Maybe I'll just have to get him a girl friend

I did a breeding loan in '06. I felt safe doing it as the person had a pretty good rep. He sent a male here, I housed and fed him, he got some action with one of my females, and I got 9 beautiful baby boas out of the deal. We worked out the plan well before he shipped and in the future, I'd probably have a written contract if I do it again. It allowed me to get a nice morph that otherwise I would never have gotten access to and he got some hassle free babies and injected my nice high-pink outcrossed boa's blood into his line.

thanks for the info.
I dont know of any body with another hog around here...or at least one that is ready and willing to breed. So loaning him out isnt really an option. i was just curious.
