a breedeing question
Hi everyone i am wondering if it would be better to get 100%het for albino for 400$ 100%het for hypo melanistic/ghost for 300-400$ or a 100% het for pied male 150$ crossd with one of the others(there all 1.1 pairs of normals that have tose hets save the pied one) thanks alot im just wondering which has the best future profit if i decide to breed the 2
thanks a ton!
and if anyone knows of a genetics calculator it would be greatly appreciated

If you ask me...albino is disease. I don't breed for that trait so I personally would never pay a nickel more because of it being het but that's me...I'm weird. I know. Beyond that, I
would never buy a "pair" of anything from any ball morph breeder. So much inbreeding is going already, you would be way better off making sure the breeders of the individuals you have don't even know each other. Buying "hets" also requires a great deal of trust. Better know who you are dealing with. Lot's of "het" scams.
I'm assuming you mean ball pythons anyway. You really didn't specify.

yep i am no longer a fan of albinos after finding out that i can never take my burm outside for exercise or pics because albinos cant stand the sun and its bad for thier eyes. there is no benifit to albino other than looks, and most albinos end up going blind.
as far as which will make you the most profit, are you in it for the right reasons. to me breeding should be to preserve a species, but i guess we have lost track of that with the almighty $$$$

Oh...You live in Canada? I don't so I don't know much about any of the Canadian breeders. I'd be making sure whatever you get hasn't been crossed into anything in the spiderball line. That inherent head bobble isn't a cute personality trait like many would try and have you believe. It's a genetic neurological problem. Does he offer unrelated pairs? Can he prove they are unrelated? Those are questions I'd be asking and any excuse like..."a couple of generations of linebreeding doesn't hurt", I'd take as a no.

You get a bunch of normal ball pythons that are 50% het for pied, hypo/ghost. If a snake is 100% het for anything, that means that both parents must carry the gene for it to express in the offspring. Years later when the offspring prove or disprove out...Some of the offspring may be normal het for nothing. Some may be het for pied, some may be het for hypo. Some may be het for both. The exact percentages of each are a crapshoot especially given the small clutch size of most ball pythons. It's like flipping a coin. Flip it 4 times...results can vary greatly in any direction....flip it hundreds of times and they tend to usually (but certainly not always) come fairly close to even.

What a lot of people fail to realize when dealing in normal looking snakes that are 100% het is that they are also 100% het for normal. Genes are paired. One complete set from both parents. If you breed a pied ball python to a hypo ball python then both of these snakes have the gene from both parents (how and why they expressed the trait) and all offspring when bred to a normal or other morph. Het for one thing and het for another does not express any given trait when paired. It just mixes the genes and makes double hets, mixed hets or normals het for nothing...but nothing 100% except for 100% will be het for normal since both normal looking het parents indeed have one set of normal genes...so proving them out becomes a crap shoot and requires a great deal of luck. It's also one of the things that causes impatient and/or underfunded breeders to skip over a lot of ethics and prove things by inbreeding.
