Scary true story...
At about 230 or so this morning, I wake up to find the hall light on in my townhouse and my GF not in bed. I'm naturally wondering why...she finally gets back in bed and apologizes and asks me if I heard the dog barking (80lb Weimararner); I said no and went back to sleep.
Fast forward to about 4am...
I go outside with the dog briefly and notice a neighbor's door open. meh. Take the dog back inside, give him a treat, make sure the snake's heat are on, and lock the door. Warming up my car I notice ANOTHER neighbor's door wide open. I start to get a slight chill as I remember the barking dog incident from a few hours earlier. I go back around to the front of the house and start to notice SEVERAL doors open. It's obvious now what had happened. As I left the neighborhood I count about 10-12 houses with their front doors wide open, and one car that has been broken into. Thankfully my car and the GF's car are fine. The dog likely prevented a BAD situation...since I wouldn't have heard crap and my shotgun was unloaded (she doesn't know where my shells are unfortunately). That won't happen again. My neighborhood isn't in the best of areas but I have never heard of this happening before anywhere...Should I have called the cops? Yeah. Did I? No. Why? Me and my snakes are not supposed to be living there (she's not allowed to sub-let apparently). Did I do wrong?

Dog, good; loaded gone better. Be sure your woman knows how to use it also. I am trying to get a 45 for me and the misses for just such incidents. My martial art weapons are great but nothing protects the home like a fire arm.
Anyways I'm glad you two are alright. Next time listen to the dog.

Haha I can only imagine what would happen if robbers broke into my home, if they went into my room and saw four huskies they would poop their pants.
Unfortunately for me, the only thing I can rely on is if they chase him out. See, they won't be chasing him to defend me. They just want the robber to pet them and they want to lick the robber. Hopefully the robber doesn't know that and thinks they are going to kill them though lol.
Such wonderful guard dogs I have so yeah, I'm pretty defenseless at night. That's what my alarm system is for though. I'm hoping to find a way to link it to a vibrating alarm under the bed sometime so that it wakes me up if someone breaks in. One time my brother had some kind of overdose and alcohol seizure and my mom called the police. I was asleep on the chair in the front door.
There were 2 police cars, a fire truck, a ambulance with sirens on full blast. Tons of people walking right past me, shouting, fighting (my brothers friends were very violent so she called police too). I slept through most of it.
She woke me up toward the end when the police officer was wondering if I was alive. Lol.

She did listen to the dog...I never heard him. :( It wasn't apparently a full blown agressive challenge either, just one single whuff (learned this just a little while ago), right after she came upstairs. Makes sense then why I never heard him.
