The whole learning from childhood thing seems weird to me cause my whole family hated snakes and some still do but since I can remember I have been fascinated by them I think they are the neatest thing since sliced bread! But my grandpa and father always wanted black snakes around to keep the rat/mice population down. I was the one to relocate the other snakes cause if it wasn't a black snake it wasn't good. I guess I'm just hard headed!

I think some of it is predetermined as it is with monkeys. How ever I hate them for constantly pooping in their clean water.

The fear of them can be related to people. Snakes are just as unpredictable as people. Even the nice ones can lash out, and they are the ones you least expect!

my hubby hated snakes because his mom always made them sound like they were bad and always brought up snakes in the bible and how they were behind evil in the garden of edan after we got together he started to like my rtb and sence he changed his religon and his mom still doesnt like them i think it makes him like them even more they are his favrit pets now. (i dont know much about the bible so im sorry if im a little off but from what i remember that was her reasoning i know its stupid)

My irrational phobia is bugs, of almost any variety...I've had this fear as long as I can remember...growing up in rural eastern Colorado there was terror for me everytime I walked outside...
This phobia is as strong now as it was 20 years ago...I can't even own lizards that eat crickets because I am too scared they will get out and crawl on me...
Out here in California I don't go walking anywhere in the summer after dark, the city is infested with these huge (1-2") cockroaches, they come out of the storm drains and chase you all over the sidewalk...
And I know they are completely harmless, but the fear just takes over, I've run out in traffic a few times trying to get away from them...
I am at a loss to explain it...my mother was the complete opposite, her fears were mice and snakes/lizards...I was always bringing wild reptiles into our house after I caught them...she made me let them all go after a horny toad crawled over her foot in the bathroom one night...
If my mom saw a mouse anywhere inside she would keep me home from school so I could 'protect' her...I had to sit with her broom in hand to ward off the mice, LOL...

my nefew is afraid of misqueetos but hes alergic to them he swells up and is very ichy from them so that one is rational its easy to get him in the house at night just tell him the misqueetos are going to get him and he runs in the house and slams the door before they get in its funny. (we only do that when hes not listening not just to do it)

im not afraid of spiders. but i dont like getting bitten by them. i dont like mosquito bites either, but i really hate spider bites. but i suppose the thought of 1000 spiders in my head gives me the heebie jeebies.
ps my coworker got bit by a black widow on saturday and he had to go to the doctor tuesday, wednesday, and thursday for shots and they cut off part of the bite. his ankle was as big as a softball on tuesday when he finally went to the doctor. he's lucky he finally went.
