A fun experiment
I know my ball python craves attention from me. I have no idea how smart snakes really are but my son and I did a test because he seemed to prefer me holding him. I handle him more and I feed and clean his enclosure so I guess my scent is more familiar to him. I put him on my sons lap and he was holding Prada and before you knew it Prada was snaking his way over to me.. I put him back and he did it again. He wasn't happy until he was in my hands wrapped around my wrist. He also is now getting bigger and stronger and when I go to put him back in his enclosure we have a small wrestling match until I get him in.. He much prefers resting on my stomach and watching tv or sitting on my desk as I type he seems to like the rhythm of that lol..Yeah I'm nuts I know and I was thinking my snow corn was my favorite but I love em both now for different reasons.. the snow corn is so busy he is good when your hyper and want to play around he's on the move constantly where Prada just likes to chill on a warm belly..

Sounds like he prefers you but I dont know much about BPs so. Now your corn on the other hand he is probably like my bull snake! Way to active to hang with so your not too sure who he prefers they just seem happy to be moving around with anyone anywhere! Maybe if your son handled him more he would fall out of that stage and hang out with him! Is your son able to hold him securely enough? Maybe thats why he comes back to you!

Does that make you the devil? (get it? "Devil wears Prada"). Okay, well it's late. That's all I got.

Star your funny lol actually My daughter thought he looked like a purse when we got him so she named him Prada and it stuck. As for my son holding the snakes securily he is almost 13 so he does fine holding them properly. I really think it is a scent thing or something. we are going to try it again with him getting Prada out of his enclosure and then see what happens.. Maybe he loves the one who takes him out of jail lol! As for Houdini he is just a spaz and wants to take off for parts unknown. We had him one day when he escaped the first and only time and we didn't see him for 3 weeks I tore the house apart and did all the trickl like plastic bags and a fuzzie in a pop bottle nothing worked and I thought he must have escaped to the great outdoors or my cat made lunch of him. But three weeks later I was talking on the phone and walked by the counter where his enclosure had been and there he was lookin at me as if to say is it lunchtime.. I couldn't believe it. Now we make sure he has no escape. He had to stand straight up to get out the first time and go through a hole the size of a pencil.

I'll go on a limb here, and agree. My suri prefers me, over anyone else holding her. I don't think it's "love", but she feels more secure with me, and knows the difference.

I am not going to get too into depth, but I agree with snakes recognizing scents and new or unfamiliar scents will easily trigger a fight or flight response unlike a scent already in the memory bank known to cause no harm.
Should anyone truly be interested in how reptiles think I suggest you read some human behavior books that focus on the r- complex or reptile brain, as well as researching animal behavior and the learning abilities of many animals, mammals, birds and reptiles, even aquatic animals (squids, sharks, octopuses ).
Love though, I highly doubt it, security definitely.
