Snake topic suggestion
I've tried this before, but it never seems to work. I want to throw this out for discussion and more ideas.
I think it would be nice if we had a (sticky?) thread for each species and locale that people here have. In that thread, people would post basic info on the individual (sex, origin, size, etc) and a favorite pic or 2. Hopefully others would follow suit. In time, I think each would be a great thread for people looking for info on (or owners of) different snakes. It would almost be like a species gallery, but easier to navigate, being a single thread for each.
What does everyone else think?

The only issue you might have with that is that in a forum like, say, Boa Constrictors the entire first page would be stickys....imagine Bcc with all the ssp of it Peru, Trinidad, Suriname, Guyana, True Columbian Bcc, Brazilian....that is half the page right there and still haven't gotten into BCA, BCI, BCO...etc....that could end up being more confusing than just running a search on the type of snake you are looking for information on.

^^^True. Perhaps ONE sticky per forum subsection for folks photos with the same idea.

I agree! I like the one thread per forum idea. On the site forums.repashy.com in the user gallery section, it is organized by genus > species, of all different sorts of geckos, and then a selection of images randomly cycle through on the home page. its pretty cool.

We could always do a sub-forum in the Boa Constrictors Forum. Then it wouldn't matter if the first page was nothin' but stickies.

I like that idea even better. But I think we should expand it to every forum. lizards, colubrids, etc.

Sounds like things would get WAYYYYY too complicated. Let less divisions the more traffic per division. Once you divide things into specifics each section would bog down to almost nothing. I have seen it happen before (especiall with only 500 members).

Arrrghhh I just typed this big long thing and then it got deleted! Hhaha.
I agree that we shouldnt have 233245386453 bazillion forums and sub forums for people to post in. It gets really too specific, and time consuming to click all those links.
Okay, so the basics of what I was thinking was.....
In forums that are already species specific [like bearded dragons] or that have less then [lets say 4] common species, normal sticks in the main forum should be sufficient. Should there be more added, we can always move those to a sub forum easily down the line.
For forums that have alot [5+] applicable sections [like boas, with locales, sub species, and morphs] we do a sub forum, with stickys, but to keep traffic in the regular mainstream forums, maybe we should limit the threads to ONLY the "post your pictures and info of ______" threads. where people can throw a couple pictures of their animals up, and post the "updated pictures of so-and-so" or "questions about yadda yadda" will still go into the mainstream forums.
One way to accomplish that is to maybe make it so that members cant post new threads in the sub forum, but they can reply to existing threads. If a member feels like a new thread should be made, they can PM a mod, and we will be more then happy to make one, if it fits. OR, people can make a thread [same format, asks for pictures and info only, has the form to fill out] and as it gets replys, we can always move it or sticky it, whichever fits]
Another idea is to ask that replys to sub forum threads/stickys be limited to pictures and information about x locale or species, so people dont have to weed through 15 pages of "awesome snake" and "whats its name?" and we wont have to close the thread and re-open a new one every time it gets too many replys.
I like the idea of having information go with each animal and picture. maybe we can have a little form that people can copy/paste with information like name/sex/age/etc to go along with their pictures, to answer common questions?
I think that its a cool idea to have the individual threads, because I cant count how many times I have searched for "caulker cay boa pictures" or "hog island pictures" just to have to sort through 15-20 threads that MENTION those snakes, and dont necessarily have pictures of them. I think its a really cool idea to have them all in once place, and I have never seen it done before, seems like something that would kindof make us stand out as a forum.
I dont see why we cant come to a compromise on the subject, so that everyones concerns can be address, and we can still have such a cool resource.
thoughts?
