Close call... Sad ending.
I just wanted to share something that happened tome afew months ago.
I spend a lot of time on the island of Roatan. It is the largest of 3 island of the Bay Island off the coast of Honduras. Its a short flight or boat ride from thr mainland passing the cayos cochinos on the way. Roatan is still quite virgin and is in the process of being developed, which let you see lots of wildlife.
About 3 months ago, a frind of mine, on his way home found a huge boa in the middle of the road. It was massive, at least 10 feet long. Beacause it was a dark, solitary, windy road, he did what every animal lover would do. So he stopped his car, got out, got a huge stick and tried to get the Boa to slither back into the jungle. The Boa didnt give in, instead focused all his atention to my friend, who only had enough time to make it back to the car and close the door with the Boa in pursuit.
What happened next seems like it comes right out of a movie. When he looked out the drivers side window, there was the massive head of the Boa looking right at him. "...his head was bigger than my fist and he looked like he was about to strike." All alone in the car on a dark desserted island road, he did the only thing he could, and drove off.
I just happen to drive that same road home and did so that same night about 10 minutes later. What I ran into was what I can only describe as a huge knot, slithing into itself over and over. Glissening with blood. It had been run over accidentally (not by my friend) about 1 foot behind his head. It was obvious that there was nothing which could be done to save the Boa. The body was almost flat where the tire had gone over. We did the only humane thing possible which was to put it out of its misery. ( a local islander did the deed.)
This is very common especially where wildlife has to try and cope with their environment being taken over in the name of progress.

Wow, what a loss. A 10 foot wild boa would be a beautiful sight. Tell your friend to keep a pillow case in the car should this happen again.

Agreed! Very sad ! But at least you helped his suffering...sounds like a hideous way to go! Does kinda sound like something out of a movie!

:( :( :(
I'm still trying to imagine what it's like to live in a place where boas lay across the road and show up on your doorstep. Sounds like paradise.

It is real beautiful and you are always exposed to wild animals and situations, some positive some negative... for the animals and for the humans.
