Le *sigh*
Okay so I'm a senior in Highschool and i REALLY want to graduate this coming spring but i would be graduating with a career tech diploma. Even with a career tech diploma, I can go to a Tech School then transfer to a 4 year college (if i want to) ... right now though, i honestally don't want to go to college and I don't want to go to High School for the extra year it would take me to get a College prep Diploma. My dad wants me to stay in High School and go College Prep, even though i don't want to. He gets upset every time we talk about it and makes it seem like going to college is the only way to go through life, even though i know it's not. What are y'alls thoughts on this and how to tell my dad that i'm going career tech??

Not the ONLY way but it truly is the "best" way to ensure that even if you aren't doing something you "love", chosing the right major will at least let you do something until you figure out what you love. Wish I had done it and I wouldn't have had to struggle nearly so hard to get to where I am now. Of course there are never any guarentees that going will make things easier or not going will make them harder but the odds (particularly now days) are more in your favor if you do.
Right now I am quite sure that nothing is more important to you than gaining your own freedom and independance from the rigors and structure of school full of rules and test dates and homework and papers.......the problem is that the best way to ensure "long term freedom and independance" is to go thru the crap it takes to control your own life (financially). Heck, now days they want a degree just to manage a department store.
Get it done and once you have it then you have it. Even if you NEVER use it, no one can take it from you. If you never get it you will NEVER get the chance to use it.

I remember asking the same questions when I was your age. I can't stress how important it is that you do what you need to do to get into a 4 year college. You will live a fuller, richer life if you put in the extra work right now and handle your business.
Just my opinion.

I'm almost 30 and still haven't completely decided what I want to do "when I grow up" lol. I have gotten the Associates almost completed, but then you have to decide where you want to transfer and if you can afford it. Then the time factor with work and paying bills.
If you know what you want to do and your parents are willing to pay for it put the time in now. It's well worth it.

I wish my hubby and I had more schooling it would make life easier my husband was offered a job making $28 an hour with full benefits for the family and a good retirement plan but he doesn't have a degree so we are still stuck not being able to pay for all the things are kids and us want, any way my point is more school may not sound that great but it is a good thing. Your dad may not be happy with what you want but it is your life and only you can decide what is best for you just remember your dad wants what he thinks is best for you. good luck on making your choice and talking to you dad about it.

School sucks, but it's well worth it in the long run. It's worth the headache.

College is so different. I HATED high school. Dreaded it everyday, cause I hated the people there, but I LOVED college! Its so amazingly different, and the work is sometimes a little harder, but its a do-what-you-want-to atmosphere. Then, if you join different societies its just looks awesome on a resume. You have meetings like every tuesday or some groups have meetings only once a month, and its awesome. I was in the pre law society, PLS Rep for SGA, Member of the SGA (student goverment association), student services committee (got to plan events for the college, and recommended changes to buildings (like decorating to make it look better! Way fun)), and the honor society....thing is....in college...you're not a nerd for stuff like that...you're the smart person who does all the stuff and people like that. I just works. I've got 1 year left on my Political science degree (already have busn.admin degree), and when Curtis and I have kids and they get into school, I am finishing up my last year, since I will be taking time off anyway.
Go college.
Sorry for the rant, and I know its not what you wanted to hear, but College is really awesome. Its a good thing to experience.

Some times it isn't really about what you "want" to do as much as it is what you "need" to do. By the time you realize you "should have" alot of times you are so wrapped up in life that it is too late. Going back to finnish up a degree in your thirties after you realize you should have done it to start with is almost impossible for alot of people.
I know you have horses which would indicate to me that you (ehem..your parents) have some kind of money to be able to maintain them. That would lead me to believe that you are used to living a relatively comfortable lifestyle. As a kid it is up to your parents to maintain that lifestyle for you. Trust me they won't be doing it forever. So when they are not doing it any more, if you haven't planned for what it is that you are going to do to mantain it yourself, you may be in for more than you bargained for.
Much easier to struggle thru four years of BS to not have to struggle for a lifetime with bills that maybe you can't pay.

That could not be further from the truth ... i have bought all of my horses with MY money and i accually might have to get rid of my horses because of my parent's Divorce, money is really tight. I've never lived a 'comfortable' life, my sisters and i have had to work for what we want. To have horses, i've gone w/o the name brand clothes and the big house (not that i want that in the first place LOL) ... Honestally if i don't get HOPE, I don't know how my dad is going to pay for me to go to school.
I'll probably end up with a College prep diploma but i might not be able to go to more than a local school for a while (unless i take out a student loan) ... it's all very confusing but I agree with y'all ... i should at least make it so i have the option.
