My favorite book

I wanted to share my favorite book. And was wondering if anyone else has favorites. I'm a bookworm, when I have the time. Especially during warm weather, I like to relax on a hammock and read.

My favorite series right now is George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" series. I've been re-reading the series lately, and am on "A Feast for Crows" right now.

For those that don't know, "A Song of Fire and Ice" has four books so far - "A Game of Thrones", "A Clash of Kings", "A Storm of Swords", and "A Feast for Crows".

The fifth novel is called "A Dance with Dragons". There's also two books set 90 years before the events of "A Song of Fire and Ice", which are "The Hedge Knight" and "The Sworn Sword".

Before I read this series, my favorite was easily JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit, the Trilogy, and The Smillarion. But in my humble opinion, this easily trumped Tolkien. I've read The Wheel of Time series, and I believe this series to be far better as well. Especially considering how bad the Wheel of Time got around volume five.

What I like about this series is that you have a HUGE cast of characters. And I do mean huge! There's a 20-30 page section at the end of "A Feast for Crows" that listed every name in the book, the family trees, and so on! It's easy to get overwhelmed in the beginning, but by 1/4 through the book I usually remember everyone.

And what I find unique is that each chapter is told in the perspective of different characters. One chapter would be about the Dragon Queen, Daenerys, on a entirely different continent. Then the next chapter would be about the 13 year old Queen, Sansa, of the main continent. Next chapter would be about Dan, the boatman for the Isles. Then next chapter is about The King's Hand.

Each book is told from a set of maybe 10 characters, each character has about 5-10 chapters from their perspective. It takes place on a fantasy world where magic and dragons no longer existed for many hundreds of years. But a menace from the north, called "The Others" started to move into the mainland, despite this overarching plot, there's a lot of conflict in the mainland, and Daenerys in the other continent is rallying an army to take back what she believes is her rightful throne on the mainland after her father (the King) was executed.

It's a very involving story and I love it very much. If anyone wants to share some of their favorites go ahead!

I have not heard of that book, but will put it on my list. I love to read on my raft in the pool in the summer. My favorite book of all time was The Kin of Ata are Waiting for You. It's a fantasy story about an obscure society of people who live their lives based on their nightly dreams. But the last few years I have gotten into Stephen King. I really loved Eyes of the Dragon. I think it's now one of my favorites. I also loved Hearts in Atlantis.

In younger years, I read a lot of science fantasy. Ursula LeGuin "Earthsea Trilogy" was an old favorite.

I'm a big Stephen King fan. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be: Different Seasons - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you like Stephen King, you should definitely read Hearts in Atlantis. Part of the story is about a guy who gets so obsessed with a nightly card game that it nearly costs him his college education. When I read it, I immediately thought of the internet addiction.

Tales of Earthsea was fun. Hearts in Atlantis was awesome.

One of my most enjoyed ones is Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" and the subsequent sequels. All very enjoyable.

I will check in with you for a list of summer reading when the pool opens. I also love reading autobiographies of famous people and metaphysical books. I will read pretty much anything. I especially love reading the National Enquirer while standing in line at Walmart (because I think it's really important to know all of Brad Pitt's business. lol)

Not a big fan of autobiographies, the closest I've come is "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" which uh, not quite a autobiography I suppose. LOL.

I do enjoy Wiccan tales, though. Most of my reading is literature reading. Easily the creepiest book I've ever read is Vladimir Nabokov's "Lolita." Geezus, "Ah, Lolita, the light of my life, the fire of my lions" hmy:

But I tend to read stuff like Bram Stoker's "Dracula", "Grapes of Wrath", "Catch-22", "Of Mice and Men", "Brave New World", "Dante's Inferno".

Carl Sagan is a favorite author of mine, especially "Contact." The movie was nice, but the book is mindblowing. Stephen Hawkings is also wonderful in "A Brief History of Time".

I also do a fair amount of Greek Mythology. I like some of John Grisham's pseudo-lawyer books.

Could go on and on

Probably the only comic book I've ever read in my life was, I think, The Life and Death of Superman. That's where he fights Doomsday, right? If so, then I remember that book. It was awesome.
