Biggest Scare of my Life
or... at least one of them!
Today I woke up to my dog [maddie] having a seizure, I have never even seen a dog seize before, and I have never been so scared. She kept it up for a good 20+ minutes while I scrambled to call david, call vets, and arrange a ride to take her to the vet office.
We got there really early, I woke up at 9:45, earliest appointment was 11... I left the house without my keys, without a collar or leash, and without putting the "no bark" collar on toby before putting him in the crate. I was freaking out and panicking.
The dr couldnt really give me a ton of answers, I could barely understand him [English wasnt his first language] Her temperature and heart beat was unusually low, she had stopped, and they said they would do blood work and urine analysis, along with an EKG to see if its a problem with an infection or any of her organs or stuff. They said it could be endocrine [thyroid related] which, I have a thyroid disease, and I have NO idea how that could cause seizures. and if all the lab work comes back negative/normal and the problem persists, that it is probably neurological.
While we were there, I figured we should get all her shots and vaccines, because it had been a while... And I swear, every time we go to the vet, it feels like getting raped. $600 later.....
I just hope she is okay, shes stopped now, and the excitement is over. Ive got to keep a close eye on her. Poor baby girl.

I'm sure she'll be fine. That's quite the scare though.

:( I hope she's ok. My Boxer had puppy hypoglycemia and would occasionally have low blood sugar seizures. They're terrifying for sure..
Give her a hug for me.

I hope she is OK. I can never get used to seizures. Fortunately none of mine ever had one, but many fosters I've had did.

Thanks everyone, I hope it doesnt happen again, but I cant be sure If i dont know the cause. Ill keep you updated when I get the results.
Tonight is dog food night [we make their dog food] so at least she will get a special tread [raw lamb neck bones, yum?]
She is so funny, whenever she is sick/hurt, she TOTALLY knows how to milk it because she gets extra attention. The only other time she has had a serious problem was she ripped a hole in her size on a machine being stored in our garage. She was on pills and had a stint [i think thats what the drainage tube is called?] and the dogs already sleep with us in bed, but every day we picked her up and carried her outside to go to the bathroom, [all 45 pounds of her] then carried her inside, brought her food to her, etc.
She is still getting used to being crated when we arent home [she scratches at the door endlessly which annoys the room mates] and she cut her paw on the door of the crate, and spent like a week limping around, and like, not moving when she was laying down, so that we would pick her up and carry her hahah. We fixed it, and she wasnt even tender anymore, just wanted the attention *rolls eyes*
