species specific drug addiction
Drugs.
Since my personality is not addictive, I have never had a problem moving on from things. People places and things tend to bore me after a while and the need to move on becomes much stronger then the need to stay and crave something. My only true addiction that I lean on is nicotine---and I have quit for years (like 8) only to rebound to it when stress enters my life. Even then the stress must be pretty extreme.
In any case, all that said, I come from a long line of addictive personalities. Perhaps that's what always kept me in check. When you see the devastation addicition can lead to in someones life you tend to run---if you can.
The reason for this post, is that I am trying to understand the effects of crystal meth. I have never done this drug---nor do I have any close friends who have --so I am trying to understand the effects of it. Apparently this became popular after I stopped partying or hanging out in clubs.
I now know someone who is on it and even though I have no real contact with them anymore I am baffled as to why someone would do this to themselves. And, even though I have read alot about it---websites can be very structured textbook-like sources for all this. I have read about drugs on the net before and sort of roll my eyes at some of the info out there.
Does anyone know firsthand about this---perhaps a relative or really close friend was on this? Can someone here tell me why publically or privately, why someone would devastate their lives with this stuff? What exactly does it do? I want non tech answers here. What is the rate of addiction and what is the rate of treatment success?
Any imput would be welcome.
Thanks
Nicole

I don't know any rates of addiction or success, but I know about it.
It's American made for the most part, unlike most other hard drugs.
It's gives the user a euphoric high that lasts a looong time, much longer than cocaine. It's also usually cheaper than cocaine.
The long lasting effects cause users to stay up for days and even weeks. This eventually causes the user to lose touch with reality. That's why so many tweakers seem so crazy.
The user's appetite is adversely affected, which is why tweakers are so skinny!
It's highly addictive and can be snorted, smoked, or injected.
I don't know why anybody would want to start using this drug (or any for that matter), but a lot of people who try it get hooked.
My hometown has an epidemic with this drug, so I know a few things about it.

Ive never done it, and I wont even talk to people who do. It is easily the worst of the worst IMO. Worse then coke, heroine, you name it. Meth tops it. A friend of mine in middle school, her mom, and her moms boyfriend were tweakers. she would tell me about him yelling at the voices in his head to shut up and stop yelling at him. Rad.
Methamphetamine/tweak/meth/crystal/crank was manufactured by the Nazis so that troops could march for days on end without much nourishment and any sleep.
It is an upper, and you spend days awake, which eventually leads to insanity. After prolonged use, you become schizophrenic [hear voices] your teeth rot out of your face, as well as a bunch of other really awesome stuff.

It is usually made in a bathtub with an assortment of household chemicals and cleansers. Yummy! It can be smoked like crack, or like Jesse said, snorted or injected. And everyone knows that intravenous drugs come with a whole host of other fun prizes like HIV/AIDS and Hepetitis!
Tweakers are the type of people, who if you question them, or say anything to them, they take everything REALLY personally, and freak out at you Mean AND crazy, ugly and diseased! does it get any better?
I hear that it makes you feel "invincible" but after long term use it causes impotence/ED. Crystal meth use is linked to unsafe sex practices and thus the HIV/AIDs epidemic in the gay community, since it is a popular party drug.
this is your face. this is your face on meth. Sexy.

Pretty much took the words out of my mouth guys.
Meth is nasty. I was led to believe it first became popular in Hawaii, as far as the US is concerned. When Hawaii cracked the whip on Marijuana, Meth became the new popular drug. Cheaper and more addictive than the other top contenders of the drug world, meth quickly rose through the ranks as the nastiest drug on the planet.
It has ruined more lives than I know, and affected more than I care to think about. It is evil, pure evil.
What does it feel like? Well, it feels like a million dollars.
If there was one thing I could rid the world of forever, it would definitely be meth use/abuse.
Wow, that picture really needs a headline.
"Meth - Ruining lives one city at a time."
Then again the pictures speak for themselves.

I will tell you what. Meth is both the best and the worst drug I have ever done. The meth high is so unique that it cannot be compared to anything else. Most (who don't really know) would say that it is like cocaine. It really isn't though even though both are pretty intense stimulants.
The thing that makes meth so dangerously addictive is that it is an ego-trip in a drug. The illusion of self control that it gives the user is such that you are unable to see where you have lost control of your life. The feeling is that the drug isn't doing anything to you other than making you feel good. You feel like there is nothing on earth that you can't conquer. If you lack self esteem or if you love to be in control then this drug is not to even be experimented with as you will not turn back. Meth would be taylor made to suit you.
I can tell you that when I came from CA to PA in 1993. I was homeless and about 115 lbs (I am 175 now). I owned a leather jacket, a pair of Doc Martins and a pair of jeans (no shirt, no socks, no underwear). The grip [at least on me] was unlike cocaine, lsd, marijuana, pcp or any of the othe myriad of drugs that I have managed to consume up to that point. If someone is really strung out on meth, there isn't much that you as an outsider can do to get them to see how bad thier lives have become as a result. Even prison doesn't slow it down as there are plenty of drugs inside that are readily available.
In my eyes you "esperiment" with alcohol or marijuana. There is no turning back for a personality that likes methamphetamine. I haven't done any since 1994 and to this day I think of it once and a while.
Not sure what else you would want to know but I could PM you my # as this conversation is MUCH longer than can be typed here (and definately NOT "G" rated).
Hope your friend can pull it together.

thanks so much for this input especially you Dank...it helps coming from someone who actually has done this drug. So many times we read about things like this and get text book crap from websites or docs who only know what they themselves have been told by other meds.
This person is really not a friend per say--more like an aquiantance I didn't like too much to begin with. He is egotistical, loves control and seeks to destroy when stood up against. He loves power trips and I haven't seen him in quite sometime as he has gotten into this whole thing. I wonder what a person like that would be like when this drug is added to their personality.....?
Dank how did you beat it? I mean you sound like you were pretty low there and managed to pull yourself out...how did you do it?? (if you don't mind saying--you could always PM me if your wanting this to kept on the QT)
Thanks again everyone--this is definately an enlighting thread. Where else to turn but my reptile friends for questions about life.
BTW anyone have a good meatball recipe?
(seriously :0 )

well if you are wanting a good meatball recipe then i shall give it to you, my wife makes killer meatballs, and are requested at every get together family or friends everyone loves it.
go to the store and buy Italian style meatballs.
now for the sauce
a whole jar of Heinz cocktail sauce
3/4 of 6oz jar of grape jelly
cup of barbeque sauce (sweet baby rays honey bbq)
2-3 tablespoons of worchestishire sauce
salt and pepper a dash
garlic salt a dash
heat up in sauce pan to melt grape jelly into a liquid with the other ingredients then pour into a slow cooker or crockpot and let simmer on low to medium for 45-1hr so it can soak into the meatballs.
