Gun Collectors

I see a lot of Gun collectors hanging around here. Anyone else into the old Russian Rifles? They are flooding the market here now. No shortage but since they make pretty much the same design nonstop in HUGE quantities for over 100 years, the different variations, models, markings etc make them quite collectible. I just discovered them really a couple of months ago and now I'm hooked. They are fun to shoot. They kick like a mule though and have a steel butt plate so hold it tight Here's the beginning of my collection. I'd love to find an authentic sniper rifle but they are scarce and expensive. Lots of conversions on the market but it's not the same thing...though it may have to do.

The Mosin Nagant sniper rifles were made from selected rifles that were machined the best of a given lot. They had turned down bolts to clear the scope. The triggers were tighter too. You can buy the original scopes and mounts fairly inexpensive. You can have bolts made or have your own bent if you want to keep matching serial numbers. It's not hard to convert one...but the original factory made sniper rifles are the holy grail of Mosin rifles.

Here in the US, these rifles are cheap. You can buy a beat up one for around 70 dollars. One with all matching serial numbers and in decent shape still costs under 200. The sniper rifles run from about 700 up to whatever...rarely over 1000 though. You can also buy a black composite stock, a sports style, sniper style or modern style turned down bolt, throw a nice scope on it and and you have a new looking, very accurate, nearly indestructible big game rifle that shoots 7.62 x 54r ammo. Range ammo is cheap. Just use the full metal jacket surplus stuff. 20 rounds costs about 6 bucks. Soft point lead rounds are also available for hunting. It's a little higher but not too bad. I've been reading a lot about these rifles and have yet to run across any comment that was unfavorable.

Nice. Does anyone collect those French carbines? You know, the ones from circa 1940-41 that were never fired and only dropped once.

DOH! I shouldn't have gone to the range today. Rent is due, I just paid all the other bills ...so I'm way to broke to have run into this .45 ...but...will power I lack...

Some guy spent the 6 bills for this thing, shot one mag out of it, took it home...came back and said it was too much boom and traded it for a 9mm. Sooooo I'm getting it for 294 dollars But I gotta wait till next week if I want to eat this week. :( Hey! Snake hooks are on sale! 20 % off this week only for RTC members! LOL

Ruger makes a good pistol no doubt. Good deal in the price also. Me I just picked up yet another Colt 38 super from their custom shop that a guy traded in on a race gun. Thing cost around 2300 bucks new and I picked it up for just under a grand. Just too bad the guy fired it and pretty much took away most of the collectors value of it by doing so (if that makes any sense)..
