actually craig your wrong we do get oil from Iraq in fact there was a big discussion on about it. they were discussing how they are making huge profits from our oil demand, and they are also getting money from our government for rebuilding.
dont be so sadly mistaken.

its only a free enterprise when it works that way, when your oil companies by out every new patent to keep us from going forward its not much of a free enterprise.
we have had hydrogen cars that could be put into production for the last couple of years but the oil companies say no, that would ruin their profits.
however the oil companies had the highest ever record profits the first quarter of the year and with three more quarters to go they are going to have another great year at our expense.

i could swear we just occupied a country that has TONS of oil...why are prices going UP?????

i think its been 30 years or so since the us has built an oil refinery, we need to become independent on oil, we need new better cleaner refineries. the oil companies haven't spent their profits on anything but themselves, as far as if they car about mankind or any of that, go to the gas station and read the prices, shows you how much they care.

america needs to bring her jobs back home, quit paying illegal immigrants at home and quit paying 3rd world countries pennies on the dollar to make a product and then bring it back here and sell it for hundreds.

america was best when the jobs were at home, filled by american citizens, when companies started moving oversees cause they could pay people there pennies an hour and make huge profits back here we had a problem, america can become good again, but it needs a lot of work.

America stands for free enterprise. Restricting profit is a perrenial communist idea, one I do not share. Businesses employ people, and profit gives business incentive.

Speaking of incentive, there is no restriction on individual success. Just look at those couple of guys who created U-tube and the millions they made. If American workers want to offer more than overseas cheap labor, they will find a way.

I think that shortly, the American people will just change some of the way they do things. There will be more work done at home on computer, more people travelling and sharing costs, etc.

I believe in America, in both the businesses that are doing well now, and in the potential for each American to be equally as successful.

you are wrong about free enterprise and not putting caps on profits, tell that to my wifes family who is all farmers, who puts the food on your table.
farmers are told what they can sell their goods for, they are regulated on everything, why is oil more important than food ask yourself this question. dont think everyone gets the same way our over charging oil companies friends get cause they dont.

her family spends hundreds of thousands on diesel and fuel every year, then they have land taxes, expensive equipment and maintence, feed for cattle, and hands for working the crops. there are a ton of cost for farmers and at the end of the day they are told what they can sell for. is that right

I do not believe either free enterprise, or America, to be a joke. If the farming biz makes no profit, perhaps that is a signal to go into something else.
Many people are switching careers, some later in life than others. If you want to find frogs, go to a pond. If you want to make money, go to where the money is.

no offense but that has to be the craziest thing i have ever heard, great ok HEY ALL FARMERS QUIT YOUR JOBS. are you kidding me, someone has to grow our food, and raise cattle, pigs, ect. so that you can eat. sure everyone quit farming and go do something else so we can starve to death. that is the idea.

First of all, this is a civil debate; let's keep it that way. We do know about economics here in Texas, and I myself am familiar with economic concepts.

Farming is changing, and many family farm run farmers are quitting as farms become larger with more machinery and more temporary labor. There is still food in the grocery stores.

Many people are changing what they do in mid life and beyond, I for instance have grown children and went back to school.

Economics is not always comfortable, but free enterprise continues to work and Americans do have a higher standard of living than many in other countries.
