Neighbor from Hades
I just need to vent for a minute. If this post is deemed inappropriate, please delete it:
Late last night, 2 cops showed up in my driveway, saying that our backyard neighbor is accusing us of trespassing. After the guy comes over and starts cussing and yelling racial slurs at my husband, Alan, I figure out that he's mad because our mower went into his yard about 3 feet while Alan was mowing ours.
The cops basically told him to suck it up, and left. After that, I overheard the guy saying he would do what he had to do to get back at us...so I called the cops back and let them know. We thought that was the end of the story.
Noooooo.
Just a a little while ago, another uniformed officer came to my door, saying that the PD received a complaint today, saying that not only did our mower touch his yard, but that we 'drove a car through it, and into the opposing cul-de-sac'. Evidently he got one of his friends to corroborate his 'story'. I asked the officer to talk to the cops that were here last night, and all he would say was "I read the report". I asked him if he read the part about him vowing to 'get us'? He just looked at me, and told me we had better stay away from this guy and his property.
When I told the officer that no one drove thru their yard, he said "you can't prove that!" Since I don't have a 'witness', this guy can cause me to lose time & $$$, just by being a lying jerk.... and I have no recourse but to take it, unless I want to fabricate a "witness", too.
The funny thing is, I don't even KNOW this guy. He's someone we waved at as we passsed, but never really got to know.
Has anyone ever had to deal with a neighbor like this? I'm not sure what to do next, except maybe call a lawyer.

yes I have, our Old neighbors were CRAZY they puked in our yard because they were drunk they slapped dustin in the face (while drunk) they drove over our bushes in our yard when they were moving and before they left they wrote "Red Rum" on our front porch in red. We had put many complaints into our local police office all with them saying (because its a duplex) that our land lord needs to take care of it because there was nothing they could do about it. We contacted our landlord every time we called he police and he told us that he didn't wanna stir the pot with them because he needs his check.
We did some stuff that I am not going to talk about (none of which was illegal) and they moved.

I don't want to sink to their level... I've always thought of myself and my family as decent neighbors. That shouldn't change, just because this guy wants to be a putz.
I just think it's wrong that he can make us out to be bad people, and in order to defend ourselves, we would be made to BE bad people!

Build a fence!
Edit: Sorry, that was really blunt lol.
If you build a fence, then they can't claim any of that crap anymore! You can probably find a few teens on summer break that need a job to build it for you for cheap too! We had to do that with our neighbors at my parents house. The neighbors were renters and they had no respect for the property or neighbors and they would drive through our yard when their driveway was full due to having a party. That ended soon when we extended the fence!

We have a fence. But we had a veggie garden right outside the fence, and we mowed the strip of grass out there too. Or we did... the officers last night told us to let the grass grow. And we have to give up the garden, for fear of getting "too close".

Many att'ys will give you a 30 minute consult for free while they listen to your facts and decide whether they want to take the case. If all this happened to me, I would consult an att'y especially after hearing some of the officer statements. Your neighbor sounds like a real piece of work.
Also, for pretty cheap you can get a camera and conspicuously place it aimed at the property line. while it may not be necessarily placed into evidence, it can do a lot just by being there.

So the guy has been lurking out behind our fence with a flashlilght tonight... I'm starting to fear he might do something to the dogs.
I've been going outside with them, and not leaving them alone. Am I being neurotic??

Shoot him!
.
That seems to be the solution to annoyances or so I'm told.
