LOL Yeah...the better part of me says, "no matter what...stealing is wrong" ...but I don't know. To these old rich farts, we are literally talking pocket change. I don't know if he paid out 30 grand or more to move the house or just cashed in a favor. heck, he might have owned the moving company...I don't know but I suspect he may have thrown old "Curly" a bone on something else or just paid him for the house under the table.....They were/are partners in so many other things and one thing's for dang certain, Larry, over the years put MILLIONS in Curly's pocket so he probably never paid him anything for the house...and I'm sure that's why it never became a legal matter Smile It worked out well for the young couple and their kids And I'm sure it made a very loyal employee...but he had that anyway. He never bought them work trucks. He had them all working out of loaded Silverados. They trashed them pretty good on the work sites but he just kept replacing them. Our Fleet manager kept trying to steal those accounts from me claiming that they were Fleet deals and should be his. He called "Larry" one time to instruct him to come see him for his future purchases. "Larry" threatened to buy the dealership and fire him. I had a long meeting with the dealer about it...and kept my accounts...not that there was any real decision there. I was way too tight with those guys to get nudged out. I had 3 other pretty good "fleet" accounts too. I started selling there at 19 and wasn't taken very seriously. There was a lot of big business in the area and a lot of builders with a great deal of wealth. I happened to catch one of them...delivered what he asked for...hit it off...made friends and was in with their little circle . I always wondered if they thought they could manipulate the kid or if they just wanted to help the kid out...or maybe they just liked me...either way, it stayed the same for the full 10 years I was there. It was kind of like a redneck Mafia but where no one ever got shot and other than one stolen house, I don't think any laws were ever broken. It was just that tight family atmosphere and loyalty that brings "Mafia" to mind. Great times...I need to drive out and see those guys before I move up to the mountains next month. I haven't seen any of them in a couple of years.

Back in the 80s through to the early 90s, I sold Chevys. I had a great relationship with these 3 contractors that bought lots and lots of trucks and vans from me. If I was having a bad month, at least one of these guys was good for a couple of trucks if I called them. Usually, I didn't have to. They were always buying. Besides being general contractors, they also had several businesses up and down the same road. Pretty much every strip mall, gas station or business of any kind including several rental houses down this one particular busy road, was owned by one of these 3 guys. I don't want to name names here so I'll call them Larry, Curly and Moe.

Larry was struggling with throat cancer and was convinced he was going to die. He was by far, the richest of the bunch having landed a large multi million dollar contract with coca cola. He was also the most laid back and fun to be around of the bunch. Everything's funny with a pocket full of money. So...right before Christmas one year, one of Larry's employees came in and asked for an advance on his next check because his rent just went up, and he wanted to buy Christmas gifts for his kids. Larry asked him what his rent went up to. Was disgusted by the answer he got and said...get back to work...I'll handle this. The house he was renting was owned by "Curly". Larry called Curly and cussed him out for what he was charging for rent on that "shack". Curly told Larry that if he didn't like it, the kids could move out. See...they used to work for Curly..and got cheap rent on this old house but when they quit, rent went up They liked the house for some reason and wanted to stay. So...Larry hung up and called some house movers. That same day, they jacked the house up off the foundation and moved it with no permits or anything down the road to one of Larry's empty lots and set it up and even put a big Christmas tree in the living room complete with presents for the kids under it. He then called his boy back into his office, gave him 500 bucks and a deed to the property he just moved the house to. He had no idea his house was moved lol. He told him not to worry about the law or Curly...he'd handle it and no more worrying about rent. It took a couple of days for Curly to realize his house was gone. When he did, he stomped into Larry's office screaming and cussing..."YOU STOLE MY $%#$$# HOUSE!!!!" Larry just kicked back and smiled. held his little voice thing that made him sound like a robot up to his neck and said "Sue me". That to my knowledge is as far as the whole house thing ever went. No charges, no law suit...just a pretty expensive for all involved little charitable prank. Moe was not involved but like me, was laughing on the sideline.
that is frickin' awesome! did the nice guy end up dying from the cancer?

As far as I know he's still kicking. Any time the C word comes up, most people tend to feel very mortal especially when it blind sides them.

he sent 3 different people out. the first one cleaned our filter and said he put it back in and in a few days he would bring a new one. the second one blew Freon into it and the third one came and said the first one never put a new filter in and it ruined something or another.
well while the third guy was here the owner came too and we all went out by the air conditioner. to all of our surprise it was not the one that was installed when the house was built 3 years ago! while we were at work some body came and took our good one and replaced it with a old broken down one! we are not talking a window air conditioner we are talking a central air one!
i am thinking one of the workers he sent over came and took our good one and put an old crummy one in its place.
the nerve of some people. now we have to wait a week to get a new one
its happeing all over there after the copper
