I'm moving next week
As some of you know, I'll be moving to the North Georgia Mountains next week. For the next few months, I'll be staying with my parents till I get my house dried in. So far, I have a driveway and a septic tank. They are digging out the basement tomorrow and within a week or so should have the basement slab poured. Anyway, once the house is framed and dried in, I will finish my bedroom first and go ahead and move in while finishing the rest. I expect to take about a year to finish it...if you ever really finish a house. We built my parents house while living 2 hours away by just going up and hammering and sawing away on weekends and holidays. It took 10 years to complete Here's their house now.
Here's a lilly pad shot in Mom's goldfish pond
And here's the little black ratsnake I caught during the 4th of July cookout. He was hanging out on a small tree next to the pavilion. I moved him to the back gate to get him away from everyone.
This is my Dad's old tractor. You can't see much but it's sitting where my back porch will be. At the top of the hill behind the tractor about 100 yards or so is the property line. Beyond that is several hundred thousand acres of National Forest. Pretty sweet spot.
I'll be living next door to my parents but it's very wooded and private,,,lot of land there. Mom and Dad are in their 70s now and Dad's afraid if anything happens to him, Mom would have to sell and move into town and she really wants to keep the place but understandably doesn't want to be out there alone...so that's why I'm building there....That and...it's very relaxing up there and I love the wildlife. Dad called this morning all excited because there were 4 deer this morning checking out my new driveway. When he walked out there, there were fresh bobcat tracks in the mud there too. It's nothing to look out and see deer, coyote, fox, black bear, bobcats...occasionally a mountain lion makes an appearance. I think this is going to be a great experience. There's not much work up there though so I'm planning to go to X Ray tech school next year after the house is under control. My job for the next year will be carpenter I'm afraid...That and making snake hooks of course

Sounds like a plan. Good luck with everything - I'll be buying some snake hooks from you soon!

Your parents house is beautiful! And I can't wait to see yours when it is done. It looks like you've got a wonderful piece of land there too! I am quite jeaous Please keep us updated with pictures! And if you see any wild animals and happen to have your camera, snap a few shots! I'd love to see them!

Wow!!! A wonderful place to be I do think!!!
I would give my last few teeth to live somewhere like that...my dream environment, surrounded by wildlife and green growing things, tall trees, streams, clean air....perfect.
Lovely photos.....keep them coming!
PS actually I do have most of my teeth...horse kicked out one of my front ones and it's now a fake and I lost...what is this???
