Moving snakes cross country
I'm going be driving from California to Michigan starting on September 10th. The trip should take about 4 days.
What is the best way to make trip as smooth as possible for my rosy boa and corn snake?

i moved from michigan to GA. i am sorry you are moving to michigan. since it is summer just put the snakes in a pillow case and then a tote or just a tote. make sure the car does not get to hot and do not let the snakes get to cold. if you are gonna run the air i would put heat packs in the totes.

Moving in september isnt that bad. You shouldnt have to worry about the temperature that much. I packed them all up and moved the in 2 ft of snow last winter from MI to TN. That was a pain. Anyway, I'd pack them up in a pillow case or a reptile bag. I'd worry more about the altitude crossing the rockies than the temperature. I dont know that the altitude will even affect them at all, but I dont think the temp would be a big issue either. If you want to bring a 3 or 4 six heat pack and a box for at night when you sleep and the temp may go down.
That's just my opinion. Let it be known that I dont own a rosy or corn.

I'd do what was mentioned with the pillow cases. Are you stopping to sleep in motels etc? Or just a hardcore 4 day drive?

We're stopping to sleep. If it were just me, I'd drive straight the whole way and finish the trip in day, but my mom's flying to L.A. to drive home with me, and she wants to take it slow and take in the sights. I've made the trip before, but she hasn't. lol

The bags should be just fine with those two particular snakes. I wouldn't worry too much.
.
Why the move? If you don't mind me asking.

I'll sum the long and stressful story up with this- I have too much out in student loans and they won't give me anymore. To help myself out, I'm moving home and living rent-free with my mom for a few years and grinding away on those loans. I think I'm going to go back to community college part time at the same time.
My mom offering to let me build a snake room in the basement helped too.
The plan is to move back to California in a few years. I love here too much to leave forever. Though I think my mom wants me to stay in Michigan, or at the very least move back to Chicago so I'm closer to home again. I moved to Chicago when I was 19, then I moved to L.A. a year and half ago for school.

I had a roommate in Chicago who was from Italy. She was 28 and had left home for the first time to work on her Thesis in American Literature. She always though it was crazy that Americans leave home so early, so I tend to feel better when I think of that.
It's good to know other people are in my situation though.
