Volunteering at a shelter is not a life long commitment. She has every right to leave when she's had enough of what's going on. As a matter of fact, it may be the only right option at this point. I'm not exactly sure of Stargazer's age, but I think this is a decision she can make on her own.

I agree and she may just leave anyhow but I just wanted to try to emphasis that is was being done for the cats and their welfare and letting the ppl and their politics of the shelter bring her down would be a shame! But like I said if she has had enough then she has done great and should be proud of all she has done! I am proud of you Star either way!

There you go with my age again....sigh....that seems to be the hottest topic on this site lately. I spent 20 hours painting over the last two days with a friend, and we did not get the room done. The reason is because things that were promised by staff to be done did not get done first. Also, the idiots let the cats back into the room the day before we were supposed to start the painting. So before I got to paint, I was cleaning up litter boxes and moving cats out. Drop cloths were spread over cat pee. There is a great deal of sabotage and resistance to change here. I cannot wish change for the shelter more than the shelter staff wants it. That is the bottom line.
Oh, in addition I had the volunteer coordinator calling me the night before the painting was to start yelling at me because the painting day was planned at the same time as the petting day (as if this is my fault).
I agreed to supervise the completion of this room. It will take much longer because of the ineptitude of the staff, broken agreements, and complete lack of competence. But I will post pics when it's done. The paint looks great.
The one bright spot in all this is that my new partner, the board president, has been so nice to work with. He has been a calming influence to my volatile nature (I just about blew a gasket when I got there on Sunday).
As always, I appreciate all of your timely support. Christina, you should be a personal coach.
Peace out,
Star

Some organizations and people are just very negative and resistant to change. If there were more energetic positive people working there, the place would not have gotten so run down. Many people have tried to help. Few have succeeded. What I am trying to do is huge. It's amazing that I've gotten this far.

Update:
I have appreciated all of your support with this project. Today I walked off the project. There was too much stress involved due to very negative/sabotaging employees and a total lack of respect toward me as the person in charge. I will be the third person now to walk off this project. Fortunately, we did get the room painted (wish I'd taken pictures), and a new floor put in, and it looks great so far. I think the board president will try and proceed with the rest of the remodels. I reached my limit. I am very tolerant of many things but the constant disrespect, one thing after the other, is what got to me in the end.
My other job is extremely stressful right now, and I have felt like a bundle of nerves. I had someone come to my house and give me a great massage today, and it helped a lot, but now I'm stressing over the money spent on it. I figure with all the stress in my life right now, I need everything else to be enjoyable. The shelter was not. So I walked. I feel sad about it, but I have have to take care of myself. I think I will use my free time to pick up (doing) more massages and try to increase my income.
Thanks again for everyone's support over the months and for letting me vent. You all are wonderful.

Sherri I think its great what you've done. Whether you stayed 3 weeks, or you stayed 3 months, you made a huge difference and you were an inspiration. You've done more than many people ever even think about doing, and you're a wonderful person for that!
