You really think your preteen years of "snake keeping" gained you experience? lol It doesn't even matter really how many years. Maturity and knowledge can come at any age. Wisdom and real life experience takes time...a LOT of time. Knowledge is really too easy to get now days with internet access at the fingertips. It gives a false sense of wisdom and experience and causes people to jump the gun. Right now, you are feeding off your passion for these animals which I believe is up there. I'm afraid what knowledge you have though is doing more harm than good for the long run. All I have left to say is "poor snake". He's the one that's going to suffer for this fool hardy adventure you are hellbent on pursuing.

BTW. You keep saying that you feel you are ready. If you were actually ready, you would know it. You sound like you are trying to convince yourself more than you are us and that's exactly why you are posting all over the internet seeking encouragement.

Yeah, your BIG RED TEXT concerns me more than you quest for a rear fanged serpent.

I'm only going to ask one thing, then I will just lurk on this thread again.

If you should happen to get a FWC or a Mangrove with in 6 months from now, then you get your drivers license at 16 and you have a fatal car accident, who then is going to care for your snake.

I might regret getting into this, but maybe it'll be a big pile of fun all over again!

You need to listen to these people, David. They know what they're talking about. I'm going to spare you the "when I was 15, blah, blah, blah" story- because I'm young myself, but even I know that it's not a good idea. You have your whole life to think about- there's NO rush!

We bring this back to your "mentor" at the zoo- if he's telling you it's okay to keep something like that at age 14, then I have serious doubts about his responsiblitly. Why is HE not telling you to hold off and that this is not something to rush into? This worries me.
