Just a funny story
I visited my two daughters in Deerfield Beach Florida for three weeks in December well actually December 18th to January 8th! Their house is about 3 blocks from the beach which other than being way cool to be that close has some problems the biggest problem being fruit rats. Now if you saw these things you would know they are of a size that startles the #$!#$!#$!#$! out of you. I actually almost lost my bladder control when cleaning out a closet at my daughters house and disturbing one it ran over my foot and behind the ice chest agains the wall and from there proceeded to the kitchen where it disappeared. Anyway you get it and while in Florida my one daughter gave my other daughter a kitten for Christmas and she has a cute little dog Ghengis that is a Pomerainian with the big head and little flat face. I trapped 6 of thee rats while there and the night before I left more came. It is pretty disgusting because they pee to leave a trail of where they have been so their cute little beach cottage smells kind of like a hamster cage and had me scrubbing with antibacterial cleanser the whole time I was there. Coexhistance is not an option with rodents in my book. Long story short My daughter comes home from work yesterday to strange noises in the kitchen and goes and looks to find Ghengis and Princess Sophia the cat with a fruit rat cornered in the kitchen. Ghengis is head butting it and Sophia is swiping at it with her claws and making a very cool yowling sound. Ghengis joins in with some barking between head butts. Well if you saw these animals you would laugh at just the thought of this!

Actually here is Ghengis and I will find a pic of Sophia for you too and you can see how hilarious this must have been.

I remember someone who adopted a Siberian I fostered told me a story about their dog. They live on 30 fenced acres and the dog would be allowed to roam. However one day they all were out walking their property when the dog found a burrow with a rabbit nest of newborn babies.
While his daughter and wife were ooh'ing and aww'ing at it, the dog walks up, and swallows a couple of them whole in front of the now screaming and crying wife and daughter.

Kind of like the school class that nursed a oil covered baby seal back to health and cleaned it up and then took it when it was ready back to the ocean for release and set it free where in front of the eyes of all the children a killer whale pops up and has the seal for dinner right in front of them!

Yikes! They have huge rats like that in the Caribbean. My ex and I were once staying in a cottage on one of the islands when we heard a noise in the middle of the night. We woke up to find a giant rat on the stove trying to get into our food! For the rest of the trip I had that UB40 song "Rat in the Kitchen" going through my head the whole time!
Too bad you couldn't get a picture of the cat and dog with the rat. That must have been priceless!
Any reason those rats cannot be food for someone's snake?

Sounds good to me mine aren't big enough.. Maybe disease though? I don't know the ones we feed to our snakes are brought up in more sterile environments, but I imagine a snake could thrive quite well if he didn't get one that was into pesticide or something.

I wonder about that too....I know someone out here who traps squirrels and feeds them to her snakes.
