The periods are used to show transistions between topics. There isn't a way to put a space between the text like you would when making a new paragraph so the period is used to do so.

You know what, I was wrong. I though that you couldn't provide spaces w/o a period. I thought that it automatically grouped together when a post was submitted.
Man I am just striking out left and right today.
