Help Nose rub trouble
I may have taken on more than I should have and now I am scared. Last Sunday we went to a reptile sale. I wasn't looking to buy anything but suddenly there he was, a beautiful slender golden body with dark stripes and markings -a super tiger retic. I held him and he was great. To make a long story shorter I kept going back and looking at him and then my boyfriend bought him for me. The guy told us he had a nose rub from being transported in a bag but it would heal and be fine by his next shed. We bought him a large flat tote so he wouldn't have to be back in a bag and home he came (he rode on my lap, neck, shoulders, as well as the back of the seat all the way home). I moved one of the other snakes into a tote and let him have the cage as he was larger. Unfortunately I didn't think about the substrate in the cage and his nose rub. He got the substrate, which is shredded cocnut husks (the brown part you see on coconuts in the store), sort of packed into the area of the nose rub. I thought it was just sticking to the water around his mouth and it would come off when the water evaporated. It hasn't so my boyfriend held him and I took a soft toothbrush and very warm water and washed as much as I could off of his mouth. He was not a happy snake and we had to stop as we couldn't control him very well and were afraid he might get hurt. I am worried about infection. He doesn't seem to have excess saliva and he gets bubbles around his mouth only when in the water so I'm not sure if that could mean infection or not. We have had snakes for about 4 years but never had one with an injury or illness. I am afraid that I am in over my head with this one and that he may be the one to suffer due to my inexperience as well as for my impulsive purchase. Any and all input would be greatly apreciated.
