Heat and Humidity.
As some of you might have read in my Introduction, I'm a new Boa owner, so this forum so far has been loads of help. I live in Honduras, Central America and my Boa showed up on my door step about 3 weeks ago. Because they are living in their natural habitat, is it important to control humidity and temperature in the enclosure (as long as its the same as outside)? I'm constantly worried that he might be too cold. Humidity is no problem as it is always very humid here summer or winter. Any suggestions?

Ok so I'm pretty safe then. We are in our rainy season and the temperature varies (day-night) between 87 and 80 with at least 70% relative humidity. And when it doesnt rain, anywhere from 96 during the day and 88 at night with 80% relative humidity. I just dont keep his enclosure in a room with AC. Thanks... this formum has been real helpful.

please dont let his cage get up to 96 cause it can kill him or cause neurological (spelling) problems. he needs a cool side to get away from the heat. so he needs one side at about 88 and a cool side at 80. in the hot part of days in the wild they find a cool place to hide.

96 is outside temp, indoors is much cooler. Either way I have a digital thermometer and hygrometer installed inside the enclosure for control.

Please keep in mind that just because they are in their natural habitat doesn't mean your cage is set up properly. When you confine them to a cage they lose the ability to thermoregulate among a large area where they can find cooler or hotter places. In a 6x2x2 unregulated cage they have no choice of temperature as there's no cool or hot side. So they are stuck with whatever the ambient temperature is.

Personally if I were you I would keep the snake out side in a hardwire clothed cage. Taking in a wild animal may kill it in too clean of an environment. Many w/c reptiles do not adjust to captivity well and you have the ability to house it outside. You may want to think about re-releasing it and buying a captive bred one.
