I use the belly heat, no panels, no lights. I can do that because the room the snakes are in is always 78° - 81°. Because of that it doesn't take much to raise the temps in the cage with the belly heat. If you are living in arrangement where you are trying not to raise the room temps then you may wish to go with the belly heat in conjunction with another heat source or try another heat soruce all together.
Snakes are not as dependant on light to be healthy as some lizards are so the light option is just so that it is easier for you to see them. The fact that AP's are dark is part of what the snakes like about them. Makes them feel hidden and secure.
AP's are great cages but you do have to consider your own circumstances when choosing your options on them for the best fit.
Good luck

I don't know how you do it then Dank. Mine are kept in rooms that are 78-80 and I just get wacky fluctuations on the basking area. Kudos to you my friend.

Pro-line
The AP's look nice, but I am leaning towards the Proline cages. They seem to be made of a very strong material, and very sturdy. I have a cutting board made out of the material they make their cages out of, and it is TOUGH. A 4'x24"x14" cage is only 250$ shipped. They are also made out of recycled plastic, and are "natural color" so they allow light to pass through, even though they are 1/4" thick. And they don't need to be assembled like the AP's. I am just putting that out there. I am still having a hard time deciding myself, but I think if I buy a pre-built cage, it will be a proline.
