I'm so close to done i could almost put a snake in the cage!I hate painting!!!...LoL.as you can see there are open spaces on the front,I'm going to get some plexi tomorrow to cover them so the whole front is open to viewing and i am going to get pond liner to cover the bottom and shelf. And the heat box seems close to the shelf but i can easily move the shelf if need be to get a proper surface temp. The heat box has a door to to open with a latch.

shelf and heat box

door that i may change to side opening

Looks good but I was curious about that shelf. It doesn't look very thick and it looks like its free floating... Is there like braces going from the wall to the outer edge of that shelf? Just curious. I would hate for you to put your burm in there and have that shelf fall. It is a pain in the butt to fix stuff after its already a established home. Dustin just had to re tile and caulk a cage because I must have missed a spot when I did it the first time. Any ways just checking

Looking great. Dave and Pythongirl bring up great points. Be sure the shelf can support a large heavy burm (the record was 403lbs) and I would have your door swing side ways so it can be opened slightly instead of swinging all the way open as soon as you unlock it. Food doors are always nice as well.
Good luck and it looks beautiful.

Looks really good! Thanks for sharing the progress. I wish I had space to build cages(and the know-how)! Can't wait to see it all done and occupied.

The shelf is free floating,And very strong..170 ponds of me and paint were in there bouncing around and it Didn't even move the slightest,It could take way more weight than that too.The whole underside of the shelf if framed in lots of 2 by fours. The shelf is attached to the cage walls with the outer 2 by fours on the perimiter of the shelf, screwed on from the outside of the cage.
And for the doorI may do it different on the next cage but this one is staying like that, this thing already cost 3 times what i planned. For feeding i am going to make the plexi that is going to cover the spaces next to the door slide up and down, that way i have a feeding door on both sides.
I'm off to put on another coat of paint,I hate painting!!Next cage I'm buying a sprayer.
Thanks for the suggestions Guys and gals.
Jason.
