I'm using a RHP. But now I'm confused. Some are saying halfway, some are saying on top of the substrate, and one even said under the substrate. lol. Maybe I'll experiment and see where it works best. Right now I've got it about an inch off the floor. Seems to be working about the same as the Repti-Temp 500R, except the temps are more stable. Ambient 87, basking spot 90.7, cool side 82. Not too bad. I'll play with the night drop tonight. I need the heat at night right now, because it's very hot and I'm running my air conditioner pretty much non-stop, 24/7. Would a drop of 77-78 at night be ok? Ray

Now I am hearing someone making since The same thermostat won't work the same in all enclosures. Place the probe and see if it can hold your temps steady enough in that location. If there is too much fluctuation then relocate it. Do that until you find the optimal position for your situation. (Note that you may not be setting the thermostat to the exact temp that you wish the cage to be. Just set it to the number that keeps your thermometers right). Best of luck

Yep, place it where it works. If you have to leave it out of the cage (god forbidding ) to acquire correct temps then more power to ya.
