Herp Power Thermostat
For those using a Herp Power proportional thermostat, where do you place the probe? Right now I'm using a Repti-Temp 500R with the probe about an inch of the floor of the enclosure on the hot side. I'm getting my Herp power tomorrow and would like to know the best placement. Thanks, Ray

that all depends on what kind of heating element you are useing....for a ceramic heat emitter that you screw into a lamp you want it half way between the floor and the heater....for a radiant heatpanel the same applies....for a heat pad mounted on the floor you want the prob sticking right to the floor and make sure the snake cant move it....
so if the heat is comming from above you generally want the probe half way between....if its on the floor you want it directly on the source of heat.

i just lay on top of the substrate with the heat panels, but for my heat pads, the probe goes under the substrate

not exactly the recommended way....its half way between the floor and the heat source.

well it depends on how your setup is and what kind of herp your using it on for a boa i'd say on top of the substrate is fine for a GTP or arboreal species mount it level with the upper most perch(assuming your using a above heat source) i use a Helix DBS1000 for my chondros and it works great i love em.

This is the first time I've ever heard of that. What's your reasons for that? I don't see any benefits. If it's 88 degrees halfway between the heat panel and the substrate, then the substrate (where the snake is) won't be the right temperature. It would be too cold.
