question about heat tape

i have a tub system for my boas i have a reostat that isnt working either i have the reostat in place and i cant get it higher than 80 degrees or i dont use it and it stays 117 or so now thats with the thermo right on the metal that the heat tape is mounted under what can i do to get a better temp

If the rheostat isn't working, I'd suggest getting one that works or invest in a thermostat.

What is the ambient temp in the room? Your ambient room temp may be too low for the rheostat to compensate for.

Ambient room temp of 80? Sounds a LITTLE high for daytime and WAY too high for nighttime. I keep my room ambient mid/high 70s.
