It sprayed your dog! (unless I missed something else). It was defending itself. Your dog provoked it.

We personally believe this skunk might have been rabid because our dog is in a fenced in yard, the skunk was not in the fence, there was nothing stopping this skunk from running away. We personally SAW the skunk turn and spray the dog through the fence and ran away then again 2 hours later the SAME skunk came and did the same thing over again.

The skunk could have just as easily ran away... it was not in the fenced in yard. Well say a thief broke in your house and you walked out of your bedroom and scared the thief and he shot you because you scared him... You provoked the shot by scaring him... LIKE I SAID this is stupid to argue about none of it is going to bring the "Poor lil Skunk" back

I don't know about comparing flies and mosquitoes to mammals. That's going to be hard for most people to grasp.

Granted I'm very particular about keeping doors and windows shut so I rarely, if ever, have a fly in the house. In Pullman, there are wasps as far as the eyes can see. There are dozens of nests just on my front porch alone. Heck, there's one inside the rear view mirror on my chevy. Yeah they are kind of annoying and I've been stung several times. Perhaps I am being a little particular. But that's just how I am. I don't believe any living thing deserves to be killed just for being itself. Prime example, rattlesnakes. What does the majority of people do when they see one? Do they leave it alone like they should? Or do they kill it on sight? Why? Just because it's a rattlesnake. Yet it wasn't doing anything wrong.
I'm that type of person who sees a spider in the house and lets it go outside instead of squishing it.

Well, one thing's for sure: regarding this topic, you live what you believe.
But, so do I. If a wasp stings me, I kill it. I paint houses and have to remove yellow jacket nests on a daily basis. I don't relocate them; I destroy them.

At the risk of getting flamed.....
Let it go.
Folks are obviously not going to agree on this point, and this is one of those issues that has the potential to get out of control... the more heated the emotions get, the more the pot gets stirred.
The dog is stinkless. The skunk is dead. No amount of arguing is going to change the outcome of either.
That is all.

Ha ha...now there's an ad on the page about how to get rid of the smell if your pet gets sprayed by a skunk! Too funny.
By the way, I personally enjoy reasonable, calm debates and hearing other people's opinions. I often think I'm right about something until someone brings a better perspective. I can agree to disagree too. Its when insults, self righteousness and hostility come into play that it becomes wrong.

Does any one see a problem with irresponsible people letting their cats breed out of control, contributing to a feral cat problem, out of control cats that in turn kill native species? Birds, lizards, you name it.
