Mongrove monitor
just got one from a guy, hes a little jitterish (likes to run), never bites, idk if he can hiss yet, hes about 14 inches, still a baby. hes healthy. just got him 2 day. im a little lost on how big the cage should be, hes araboreal yet, he lives in water?? idk what kinda cage i should put him in, i have him in a 20 right now its big as #$!#$!#$!#$! compared 2 him with a big rock and some fake plants, and a huge piece of drift wood so it repersents his eco system, im gonna be feeding him boild chicken and some meal worms or somthing with calcium dust, his heads the size of a big cricket, hes just small period, idk on a name. but first i need 2 know what kinda cage i need.
right now his cage is filled with 3 inches of water, as i said a piece of dift wood the goes ^^ so he can climb, with the fake reed like plants, and the rock is the basking spot, its a 75, and i have a uvb on the rock as well. also, is boiled chicken a good idea? and would it be ok if i gave him a dead mouse and let him just rip it up and eat what he wants?

I wasn't gonna say anything, since I didn't have anything nice to say. But...you really shouldn't be purchasing/acquiring animals when you are not sure about their needs. You get a new 'pet' every couple weeks, disposing of the critters that no longer fit in. How long will you have this one? Do you still have the BD's or did you trade them for this lil guy?
This monitor will get about 4 feet long and will need a very large enclosure as an adult. It will need to be both arboreal and aquatic. For now, the young monitor will be fine in a large aquarium, but it will soon require larger accommodations.
Where did you get the idea to feed boiled chicken? These monitors will eat mostly insects, but a varied diet it important. Read a couple of caresheets, in order to get a better idea of their diet. Go to Google and type in "mangrove monitor". That is your best bet at this point, but in the future, you should seriously consider researching the needs of a pet, before you acquire it. my 2¢.

i still have him, the guy dident want 2 part with the female. as well i was curious cause i could only find care sheets for adults, and in all of them it said, adults are extremely different so im trying to find out. why do u think i get rid of all my reptiles? i gave the rhino iguana away, and adopted the black throat which i had 2 give away. i have everything i need, and i have the money for a new tank. if you guys are just gonna jump on me like this yet again. no point in staying in the forum.
as well i have 2 take this guy 2 the vet 2 marrow, hes a wild caught. one of my breeder friends was selling him.
as well i take a big offence to getting rid of them? any reptile ive had and had 2 give up. ive made sure they go to a good home

We certainly don't mean to jump all over you. Even more so, we don't want you to leave. So please don't.
.
But please look at this from our stand point for a moment. We see that you get these animals and then you ask how to care for them. Shorty after, we see that you got rid of them. Getting rid of them is one thing but keep in mind the reptile is going through a lot of stress. Stress from you acquiring it, then more stress from parting with it. And like Rick mentioned, it seems like you are parting with them when something "newer" and "cooler" presents itself. Whether that be the case or not.
.
We certainly hope you decided to stay, and try not to take offense to the advice given here and in the future. It's done in the best interest for you and your pets.
.
Our best, IMO, monitor keeper here is Razeraze. He knows an awful lot about them. As well as several other members. Shoot him a PM, i'm sure he'd be glad to help you out.

I don't know about glad to, but I did. I forgot this was the guy who gave up the blackthroat, I am sure if this mangrove gets 4-5 feet it will be gone also.

ok hes in a cage thats 3 feet long, 2 feet tall and about a 1 and a half wide, im put that walnut mulch, or that barky stuff in there. im then take a small tree and put it in the left corner. there will be about 4-6 inches of substright, so he can bury. in th other corner, im put a huge bowl of water. that will take up half the cage. this guy loves the water he hates 2 come out of it. so ya im put a rock in there 2 with some drift wood so he can climb and bask. i have a 75 watt with a uvb light. now this is a small cage till i can finish building his cage. whats gonna suck is im be moving to Washington in a few months so im have 2 sneak him up there with me.
also hes extremly fast and likes 2 run when held, i get a grip on him and he mellows but as soon as a loosen BAM! he runs, will holding him alot make him kinda mellow out, or will that only happen when he matures? also idk if its a male or not but is Incu a good name?
i read a guide to feed them (babys) feeder fish, meal worms, crickets, ground turkey, and pinkies. is it good 2 just feed him like 1 of everything a weak so he has a varity? also, i know monitors grow fast, and i know mongroves have knifes for teeth, but how fast does he grow? im ready for him 2 get upto 5feet maybe 6. and i know there tail is long and stuff. uhm thats it im reading alot. and he seems happy. healthy to. the vet said hes fine good monitor, he was surprised how he wasent nippy or anything, dosent even try 2 bite. uh thats it ill try 2 take some pics soon.

I have no clue buddy. Monitors are so freaking awesome, but sadly I know very very little about their husbandry.
