Anyone else have bad Varanids?
Here was our first cage:
We had to change it because the monitor kept breaking the lights inside the cage. So we added a light box with hardware cloth to protect it. Here she is still trying to break the lights:
We felt since that little terror never broke them after the hardware cloth was put up; we would be safe with any destructive monitor. Lo and behold we hear a shatter this morning, so we check the white throat cage. Sure enough I find this:
Some how he pushed hard enough to break the energy saver bulb. So do I just end up with rotten monitors? I see dozens of cages with lamps inside and no problems yet my monitors seem to go out of their way to break their bulbs

some reptiles just got certain personalities. and looks like thats your monitors favor thing to do, also get you pretty mad dont it lol, bet they is laughing lol, you will figure out something.

The new light has survived for 4 days. I will let you all know if he breaks it again.

No they were just cheap heat lamps from the home depot. The water monitor never shattered the lights she broke them off at the base. I am not sure how my whitethroat shattered the bulb like he did, I think he may have got a claw around the energy saver and tried to pull down.
Pain in the butts they are.
