New Dumerils! [DU no-no]
So a while ago I responded to an ad on craigslist to someone who had a large 5-6 ft unsexed dumerils [which is HUGE for a male], it was a rescue organization and she said it was in good health, so I was all about going out and adopting it, male or female, didnt matter.
So yesterday we drove out to Pleasanton to check her out. The lady thought that it was a male, and she warned me that it was pretty aggressive. I would like to say that it is sitting on my lap right now, and the COMPLETE opposite, SHE is a total sweetie!
We didnt look at her long, put her in the bag and then filled out the paperwork and gave her the fee. She didnt have mites, the worst of the problems was stuck shed, which i was able to rub off without even soaking.
Well, in the car on the way back, and we stop at a gas station, and I take her out to give her a better look, since i felt something rough on her back. She had burns down her back, and scale rot on her belly to boot.... I was a little peeved to say the least, I called the lady back, and she was really nice about it, and offered to pay the vet bills. Which rocks. So she has an appointment with my local exotics vet on Tuesday to get some ointment and a full check up. Besides the burns and the scale rot, her vent seems a little swollen, but she doesnt have an RI, and I was told she is taking F/T easily. She is well fed, and VERY cute.
You cant see very well from these pics, but she has a very angular head, and reduced patterning on her head, when we first left the rescue, we had to like.. double check if she wasnt a Madagascar ground. Shes not, but she is very cute none the less.
I am slowly but surely becoming dumerils lady
The Burns
The scale rot.

Congrats. Now I know the difference between Dums and Madagascar Grounds!
Your place is shifting from a Gecko haven into a Dumeril's powerhouse.

haha, its a bunch of things, head shape, SIZE [Madagascar grounds get ALOT bigger] and they have really reduced patterns on the tops, but the same patterning on the sides. Dumerils typically dont get much larger then 5-6 ft, so when you hear about really big dums, they probably have Madagascar ground in them. Ive heard people say that almost all dumerils in captivity have some in them, which I guess is kindof a good thing, because they have a REALLY limited gene pool, and I know years ago they were having issues with inbreeding.
And that would have to be a PRETTY BIG shift. 5 vs 250 give or take haha. not that I would mind much, snakes are 23465476345 x easier to take care of

Thanks Brandon, I hope I can do her some good. I have never delt with scale rot or anything like this before, but I have a really awesome herp vet. And large dumerils are a really great size. Id love a couple snakes bigger [like my argentines] but other then that, dumerils are like the perfect size.

Poor baby! Im glad you've got her now though. The vet will fix her right up.
I just did a rescue where the guy said the RTB was very aggressive and she was the sweetest thing! It drives me nuts how wrong people can be....
let us know how she turns out

Shes a total sweet heart, we cuddled up for a nap earlier today. I named her! Her name is Lydia, like from beetlejuice.
