No offense but mudpuppys are different than salamanders. A red backed salamander is an amphibian

I know they are, but here in mass we call em mud puppys
Got a problem with that take it up with the Reduntant Council of Redundancy k?
We also call em mud dogs and mud skippers but those are different too.
Next please.

You two, knock it off! Don't having anything nice to say, then keep your mouth shut. Pretty simple.
.
Thanks

Then you two should just ignore each other. PM, threads etc....Just ignore one another. It's not difficult to do.

Salamanders and mud puppies are both amphibians. The difference is that salamanders develop lungs and leave the water. Mud Puppies remain aquatic. They have large feathery external gills. Whomever in Massachusetts is calling salamanders "mud puppies"...they are incorrect.
Drawing a correction of a misidentification of any herp on a herp site is something one should expect. No reason to get bent over it. You should be thankful for the education.

Thanks Julius, that was very informative. I can easily stomach a correction when its put so eloquently.
Thanks for the information on them, and if you could find a good diet plan for the little guy id appreciate it! Im feeding him some tiny quarter inch centipedes I found, and im picking up some crix nymphs for him tomorow but Id like to adress all his needs properly.
Ill post pictures tomorow, its a bit late. Ill also throw up pics of my new emperor scorpion in the invert forum.

I live near a huge lake. Everything that lays flat in my yard or down by the lake has at least one salamander or a newt under it. They are as common here as gnats. It never occurred to me to keep them as pets. I honestly have no idea what they eat other than ..I'm sure bugs of some kind. On the flip side of that, I know garter snakes gobble them up

Ya these little fellas are fairly common, I may not keep him long if I dont visibly see him eat now and then.
Id prefer to find a mature one, they mate in June-July so this guys probably one of the little'uns. Hes about 6cm tail-nose right now.
