What A Hog!
Couldn't pass up this litte guy!
He's in his temp home for tonight (actually it was his home at the pet store, but they threw it in for a couple more bucks. I needed another little critter carrier anyway for culling the mice.)
He is real laid back and is only about 8 inches long, maybe 10. I will be working on a display viv tonight for him. I am currently working on a tub/rack system using 96qt tubs for the corns and sand boas, and may temporarily set the blood python and ball in them too till they get a little bigger...everything I have is so small except boaz and the russian rat snake and a couple of corns. I used the bigger tubs so I can add climbing stuff and plants, hides, etc. They'll have everything they would have in a decked out viv, just with more privacy, I'll post pics when I get it done. But then I want to take this hog, the ribbon, and possibly the milk and make them natural like display vivs (European style) and have them as the "look at snakes".
Here he was when I first brought him home....for awhile only the tail stuck out, then about 15 minutes his head popped up and looked at me and since then he has been fine being out but he is curious as to what I am, lol. Please excuse my dusty paper shredder I put him on to take the pic. It is usually hidden under the computer and never comes out. Gotta get me a maid (or a wife, lol )
oh BTW, he's a western hognose .... so these guys are actually mildly venomous??? Bee sting level? saw pics of a guy who got bit on hand and took about 5 minutes to get it off and over the next couple of days his hand and arm swelled up to his elbow!! I knew that when I got him, but I never heard of the swellling like that unless some was allergic.

I'm so jealous!! I have wanted a western hognose forever!!!! Congrats. I'm pretty sure that the swelling is normal. I had a friend get bit by one of them in between his thumb and index and his hand was really, really swollen for like a week.

Cute! I've always had a teensy little soft spot for hogs.

Hartsock, I'm still trying to put the snake love thing together with the fact that you're a pastor. It's all very confusing and ironic. lol

Now Star, I am surprised you would say that...I love snakes for all the same reasons you do. I'll admit it isn't the most common thing, but really there shouldn't be any preconcieved notions from people in my position that snakes are bad or evil. I will say it has caused many people to give me strange looks.
I think I know where your sense of confusion comes from and just to give you peace of mind, I am a pastor not a priest, so I can still marry. Don't worry you still have your shot at me, lol.
Besides, look at that little hoggy face and tell me that anyone could ever say that he isn't the cutest little thing in the world!
