Humidity

What are some of the ways you guys maintain a steady percentage of humidity?:confused1:I try misting but that does not last very long. I have an infared bulb on a thermostat on low and my UTH on medium so its a nice 89 degrees but my humidity stays at about 38 to 42 percent. Anakiya is starting to get the first signs of her shed and i dont want her to have any problems.

Keep misting, every time you walk by and notice that your humidity is down, just mist the sides of the cage. Make sure your snake has enough water to soak in, and keep that refilled. Do you have a screen top? If you do, thats whats happening to all your humidity. I keep a damp washcloth over the open parts of the cage. There are still places by the light and heater for there to be plenty of airflow but not unecessary. Gooood luck!

You can keep an extra water dish in the tank--one right under the heat lamp. This always adds humidity. Also, if I'm gone for the day, I put a damp towel in the cage as well during shed times.

Cypress mulch works great for holding the hummidity. If you cant keep the hummidity up, I reccomend housing the snake in a rubbermaid. I have 2 BPs and one in particular has been having shedding problems, couldnt keep the hummidity up in a tank so moved him into a rubbermaid. They hold the hummidity/moisture so much better.

Don't use a screen top.

with a screen lid you can get plexiglass cut and made to cover most of the screen. i used mulch and the plexiglass in michigan. my humidity would drop to the high 20's a few hours after i missed until i used the plexiglass and mulch. then it would stay in the 60's.

Humidity

Well i have an ex-terra glass cage it is a square not sure of the gallon size. I put a towel over the top it has screen top. I did put a damp hand towel inside and the humidity is staying up in the mid 50s and low 60s i just want the air be fresh and himid not stagnant. and i thought that with a UTH on the bottom if it got too damp it would crack but then again i have it on a thermostat so it wouldnt get that hot i suppose.and i am using cypress mulch. I will try your advice guy's thank you thank you thank you!

Use plexi glass to cover most of the screen. Here is a basic set up anyone can do
Click the image to open in full size.

Then you should not need an UTH. I never use those, only over head heat sources. Personally though I would build a cage and put in floor vents that can be shut.
