Hi Robb,
It was nice visiting with you again today for Veronica's feeding! I already mentioned this to your earlier, but I will repeat it for the sake of others. Pet stores do not screen buyers of reptiles--they are only in it for the profit. The only thing we can do is to not contribute to the problem further by being backyard breeders of snakes. People, please think twice before you breed your pet snakes because you think it would be a cool thing to do. Think about the hundreds of snakes that will eventually be produced from all of these (and their babies, etc.) and the bad homes many will go to that you will have no control over or knowledge of.
We can also encourage reptile shops like Scales and Tails to give out the web address for sites such as this one to everyone who buys a reptile and ENCOURAGE them to join. Or they could be encouraged to give out a caresheet detailing the hazards of feeding live. It would be nice if the stores made buyers sign a contract that they will not feed live, not use too small of an enclosure, etc. But that would kill their sales, and they would have to follow up.
Again, PLEASE, unless you have EVERY baby promised to a good home (such as the reputable breeders on this site do), don't breed your snakes just for the fun of it. Chances are, many will end up at a pet store being sold for profit to a bad home. Rant over.
When I hear stories like this, it is always upsetting, and so I hope some good can come out of it--something learned, or a point to be made.
