R.I.P Gisele
A few weeks back, I lost my little Suriname girl that I got from Dank. I wanted to wait for the sting to go away before I let everyone know. I still get a little choked up about it from time to time.
.
I had a power outage one night for a brief second. Happens all the time down here because of the severe wind but the power always kicks right back on instantly. All the herpstats where running at what I set them to, including hers. A few days later, I went into my room where she was at and smelt something I will never forget. I fed her the night of the outage so I didn't want to bother her. Turns out, that even though her thermostat was reading the setting I had it on, it wasn't regulating the uth so it was pumping out full power, essentially overheating her. I had a necropsy done, and there was nothing out of ordinary. I don't want to spark any fires because this is a touchy subject with some people but I did temp her cage at and around the basking area where I got readings anywhere from 105 to 120 (120 on the actual basking area where her favorite hide was located).
.
What still #$!#$!#$!#$! me off (and disappoints me) is that I ALWAYS grab my temp gun after a power outage to check everyone's cage just in case. This was the one time I didn't do it and thought "everything will be fine". I try not to beat myself up over it but if I would've done it like I should have, she'd probably still be with me. Just another coin to put into the "I hate Pullman" bank. :(
.
She will be missed. Beautiful boa and nothing but a sweetheart. :crying:
.

That's awful. I don't need to be using heating systems at all, so of course I don't realize all the stuff that can go wrong. But there have been other things I can only blame myself for.
Take comfort that you gave your beautiful boa the very best care before that accident.
