Lost my FLR
So, My big Florida Red Tail "Ashley" died early this morning of unknown causes. I have seen NO signs of illness. Breathing normally, active, being actively courted by my Tudehope male, everthing that would lead you to believe she was healthy.
.
I left last night for a few hours and go a call from my wife about a half hour into the trip. She was saying my "big female" looks dead. I was assuming she was talking about my Yagi pastel girl as she has been battling an RI for a couple of weeks (better sometimes worse others). She told me no it was the BIGGGGG girl :( . Here is the kicker. I called University of Penn vet hospital (the ones who did the necropsy that found tumors in Pandora a year or so ago) to see if I could get a necropsy done and they said "NO"!!!! I have to have had this animal registered as a patient of thiers "before" she died in order for them to do the necropsy. I can't just go in and pay for one :(. WHAT THE HECK!?!?!? I called around anyone in a resonable driving distance and found NO ONE who is quilified (or will do necropsies) on snakes. This is frustrating. Not really sure what to do next :(
.
Sorry for the rant. Just needed to vent.
.
Rest in peace Ashley

Oh that's just awful! Why on earth would you need to have an animal "registered as a patient" in order to get a necropsy performed? That's absurd! Like you're not stressed out enough already.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Ashley was absolutely beautiful. I hope you can get to the bottom of it.

I may have to cut her open myself just to take a look and justify it to myself. I have the sneaky suspicion that her weight and breeding stress had something to do with it. When I first got her I thought she was too big for my liking. I would just like to see if there were deposits of fat around any organs and wether or not there appeared to be follicular developement considering she was being bred.

Oh Dank that sucks, I'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you about the necropsy. The vet clinic down here will do it (patient or not). Weird.
.
Sorry for your loss. :crying:

I am very sorry for your loss, I am also enraged that they will not do a necropsy. Should you preform one or get somebody to, please let us know the results.
