That sucks. Was there any indication as to the cause? Sometimes finding that out can help to prevent it from happening again in the future.

Sometimes we should not really blame ourselves too much in some cases because we cannot tell the future. If he had released it a car may have killed it the next day, or some predator ate it. We just do not know.
We love these animals and our instinct is to keep them and care for them and it is one of the best human instincts we have, those of us who do have it are a cut above those who do not, and who care nothing for animals, instead they abuse and despise them.
We all make mistakes but our intentions are usually good, and we learn.

I have two little Jamaican tropes that I want to release, also five young Jamaican boas (gravely endangered). Deforestation and commercial and industrial development (destruction of natural habitat) are keeping me from doing so....thus far. I have to find the right place and we are a small island and running out of "right" places for these precious creatures.
