I love water monitors, and do not care for black throats or savs; yet I own a black throat and sav because they were up for adoption near by. I bought a red tail 6 years ago from a pet store and a tiger retic from Baldogo last year because the price was as much as an adoption fee ($100) And he had the snake on hand, I did not have to drive to Michigan (the only place with retics, and burms up for adoption) to pick it up.
Sorry but until I stop seeing reptiles up for adoption I probably will not buy another one and I sure as heck would not buy one over $175.00.

LOL, I wish I were a mind reader, but I'm not. The two previous posts you made in this thread gave no indication that you might be anti-breeder. I can only respond to what I interpret in black and white. Maybe my input might clarify a few things for those that are interested in buying an emerald. Cest la Vie.

Craig I am not anti-breeder, in fact I think you, Baldogo and Gus do a great service by providing alternative to the w/c pet problem. If I do buy, I would buy CBB not W/C. I just think their are too many breeders of certain snakes (burms, retics, red tails) and everyone is interested in making more babies to flood the market. Then the only way for a breeder to make more money is to get into genetically "pretty" snakes because common ones are already overwhelming their market. I wish more people would adopt snakes instead of just buying the "pretty" ones.
I just wish there was an easy solution to get all the reptiles proper homes, and keep the good reptile breeders in business. I would gladly pay $600 for one of your snakes, if other snakes did not need a home. ETB are one of my favorite snakes and I would love to own one, but I could not live with myself knowing I spent that much money on a reptile when others are flooding rescues. If I had that money I would adopt a cheaper snake and donate the rest of it to the rescue.
These are just my personal opinions and are greatly swayed by the animals I have rescued and the animals at my local reptile shelter. I do not have any Ill feelings towards those who buy CBB and I think CBB is the only way someone should purchase a reptile unless looking for another bloodline to discourage inbreeding.

Very Well. I understand your position now and must say that I agree with you about some breeders. However, I honestly think that the market that these animals which are without homes and being rescued came from are "Pet Stores", resellers, jobbers and not directly from breeders. But that is a topic for another discussion.

I started the thread because I wanted to know which was a better snake; GTP or ETB. It became a discussion on buying vs adopting snakes. That's OK with me. Conversations evolve, and I don't see the need to start a new thread or "side bar discussion" every time that happens. Nor is it usually worth arguing about or calling someone out, just because a post may be off topic. JMO.
If it's a real active thread which still has a lot to be discussed, and someone derails it by going off topic, that's different.

Well said, so many topics evolve into great information. I am glad you are not one to get upset over this.
