Advice Needed...Illegal selling of turtles?
I need some advice...I know that in the U.S. it is illegal to sell a turtle if it is less than 4 inches from end to end. I just moved to a new area and there is a petshop nearby that is absolutely disgusting. The problem is, besides a horrid smell and small cages, and dodgy puppy sales, I don't think they are doing anything illegal. The only thing I noticed was that they had some VERY small turtles for sale. Now, a few places around here require you show a teacher's license to purchase a turtle, but I don't know if this place does... also I would need to be sure they are under the size minimum...I suck at gauging size. I know four inches is about palm width, but obviously turtle shells are curved and that adds length.
I'm wondering if I should go in there and try to find out somehow, and how would I do that without being suspicious?

It can mean anything. There's no form to get or permit system...As far as I know, nothing has to be in writing though many sellers will print up a form and have you sign it to cover their backsides. But as best I can tell, that whole 4 inch rule thing just seems to serve as a semi-deterrent that lingers around to remind Moms that baby turtles carry salmonella.
